Superstar center Joel Embiid has signed a three-year, approximately $192.9 million extension with the team that runs through the 2028-29 season, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported Friday morning. The seven-time All-Star is set to make approximately $51.4 million in the 2024-25 season and $55.2 million in 2025-26, according to Spotrac. The Sixers later officially announced that Embiid signed a “multi-year” extension. While he returned late in the regular season, Embiid had semi-regular injury scares and also dealt with Bell’s palsy during the playoffs. The Sixers will hope George can lessen the burden on Embiid and Maxey to create shots and summon late-game heroics.

CNN —Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to a three-year, $192.9 million maximum contract extension, a source familiar with the contract figures told CNN. Taking his total career earnings to $514.8 million, Embiid would become the fifth member of the NBA’s $500M club, joining LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and 76ers teammate Paul George. CNN —NBA legend LeBron James has been selected as Team USA’s male flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee announced on Monday. Alongside a female flag bearer who will be announced on Tuesday, James will be front and center in a unique event. The Opening Ceremony will be held along the River Seine, marking the first time that the ceremony has not taken place inside a stadium. “It’s an incredible honor to represent the United States on this global stage, especially in a moment that can bring the whole world together,” James said in a Team USA statement. CNN —USA Basketball unveiled the player roster Wednesday for the men’s team that will compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The team will be anchored by Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, making his fourth appearance after skipping the past two Olympics. This will be the 36-year-old Curry’s first Olympic Games, making him the fifth player to represent the Warriors at an Olympics with Team USA. The US team will hold a training camp and exhibition games in Las Vegas in July, before traveling to Paris.
