What should people exposed to someone with Covid-19 do — must they also stay away from others and how often should they be tested? Individuals who had at least moderate illness and experienced more severe symptoms such as shortness of breath need to isolate through day 10. Brendan Smialowski/AFP/Getty ImagesThe ideal scenario for isolation is for the person with Covid-19 to completely separate from other family members during the initial five days. To me, the most important precaution is for those exposed to Covid-19 to stay away from people vulnerable to severe illness. The quarantine period after exposure is not the time to visit a family member in a nursing home, for example.

Last week, the Bidens publicly acknowledged their grandchild, Navy Joan Roberts, for the first time ever. At first glance, Jill Biden’s work on her trips overseas appears to be rooted in the traditional duties of first ladies: She has cheered on American Olympians in Tokyo, made a secret trip to Ukraine to meet with the country’s first lady and attended the royal wedding of the crown prince of Jordan. But in a host of speeches delivered overseas, including in Namibia and France, she has also used her platform for more political purposes, including making her case that President Biden has promoted democracy and revitalized global relationships strained by former President Donald J. Trump. In Paris on Tuesday, the first lady’s presence was a reminder, as the 2024 presidential campaign heats up, that Americans may again be choosing between the two men. Dr. Biden was there to deliver remarks for the official return of the United States to UNESCO, several years after the Trump administration pulled the country — and its funding — from the group. She was also there to deliver a White House message that Mr. Biden had united allies against what she called “Putin’s unjust war” in Ukraine.

WASHINGTON — Whenever his aides are pressed about President Joe Biden’s political future, they’ll often point to one person as the true decider: his wife of 45 years, Jill Biden. Eager to introduce herself to Gina McCarthy, then the president’s chief climate adviser, she gathered some flowers from a White House garden and brought them to her office, according to White House aides. When the realization of her new security restrictions sunk in, Jill Biden told her staff she didn’t want to become isolated. Journeys outside the protective cocoon of the White House expose her to the vitriol coursing through the nation’s politics. “I don’t pay attention because I just don’t want to hear it,” Jill Biden said.
What word comes to mind when you think of the Democratic Party? What one word comes to mind when you think of the Democratic Party? “Is there anything that you think the Republican Party does that is off-putting to Latino voters?” our moderator asked. Part of the problem is that there’s no one way to talk to Latino voters, because — as our participants reminded us — there’s no one typical Latino voter. And maybe the distinction between Latino voters and other voters shouldn’t be made at all: “We are Americans first,” another participant said.
