Spaces opened up, but when they switched to Di Maria on the right, or to Marcos Acuña on the left, Argentina rarely took that chance. It appeared as if midfielder Leandro Paredes and defender Cristian Romero knew that Di Maria wouldn’t outrun Alphonso Davies. Missed chances from Messi, Di Maria and Mac Allister kept the first 45 minutes even in Atlanta. Three minutes into the second half, Paredes sent a long diagonal ball to Di Maria, forcing Davies to backpedal. Yet with highlight-reel saves against Argentina, Crepeau stepped into the limelight and showed why Canada’s goal is now his and his alone.

Canada couldn’t beat Guadeloupe or Guatemala last summer, then lost to Jamaica and confidence has pretty much hit rock bottom. CNN —Leicester City’s Premier League triumph in 2015/16 remains one of the greatest achievements in the history of sport. With just one game left of the season, Leicester is in 18th place – the third and final relegation spot – on 31 points, two points adrift of Everton in 17th and safety. Former manager Brendan Rogers, who had been at the club since 2019, was sacked in April as Leicester made a last-ditch attempt to salvage its Premier League status by hiring Dean Smith. Of the teams facing relegation, Leicester certainly looks best placed to make an immediate return to the Premier League with some talented players and a potentially massive transfer budget from the sale of its stars. While Allardyce is known for his expertise in saving teams from relegation, his style of football could not be more different to Bielsa’s.

Feb 6 (Reuters) - Leeds United have sacked their American manager Jesse Marsch with the team languishing 17th in the table, one place above the relegation zone, the Premier League club said on Monday. Marsch joined Leeds in February 2022, replacing Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa and secured the club's top-flight survival on the final day of last season. Leeds have won only four of their 20 league matches this season with 10 losses and six draws. Marsch has previously coached RB Leipzig, New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Salzburg. Leeds will play third-placed Manchester United at Old Trafford in the league on Wednesday before facing their rivals again in the reverse fixture on Sunday.

The 24-year-old has made nearly 100 appearances for the Serie A team since joining in 2020, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists. The former Schalke 04 player will join fellow U.S. internationals Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson at Leeds, who are coached by compatriot Jesse Marsch. Leeds have also signed defender Max Wober and forward Georginio Rutter in the January transfer window. The club are 15th in the standings and sit just one point above the relegation zone halfway through the season.

Haaland scores twice as Man City cruise past Leeds

LEEDS, England, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Erling Haaland continued his incredible season in front of goal with a brace to help Manchester City cruise to a 3-1 victory at Leeds United on Wednesday, ensuring the champions closed the gap to Premier League leaders Arsenal to five points. It appeared City would go into the interval frustrated, before Spanish midfielder Rodri finally made one count in first half stoppage time, firing home after another Meslier save. The victory helped second-placed City move back to within five points Arsenal at the top of the standings, while Leeds stay 15th, two points clear of the relegation zone. "I have a (goal) target but I cannot say it," Haaland told Amazon. Leeds boss Jesse Marsch felt the timing of the goals his side conceded were their undoing.
Liverpool beat Southampton 3-1 as Darwin Nunez scored his first double for the team and Roberto Firmino also got on the scoresheet. Leicester coach Brendan Rodgers sought to calm fears about the midfielder's fitness, stating he had taken him off as a precautionary measure. For this reason I think we showed great character, great will to not give up and to believe," said Conte. Leeds coach Jesse Marsch added: "I'm gutted, I feel like someone has ripped my heart out." Newcastle United were in action against Chelsea later on Saturday while league leaders Arsenal visit Wolverhampton Wanderers with the chance to increase their advantage over City to five points.
Leeds United backed up their stunning win over Liverpool last week when they stormed back from 3-1 down at home to Bournemouth to win 4-3 with Crysencio Summerville again the hero with the winning goal. Haaland had missed City's last two games with an injury and was deemed fit enough only for the bench against Fulham. He was sent into the fray just past the hour mark with City, despite being a man light, pushing for the winner. Almost immediately he had a headed goal ruled out for offside after a VAR check, but neither he, nor City, would be denied. Pascal Gross's fifth goal of the season then secured the win for Brighton to move them to sixth with 21 points.
Liverpool's second successive defeat against a team in the bottom three, following last week's reverse at Nottingham Forest, left them in ninth place, eight points off the top four. Chelsea also lost ground as Graham Potter's return to Brighton & Hove Albion ended in a 4-1 hammering. Manchester City have 29 points from 12 games, one point more than Arsenal who host bottom club Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Spurs moved to 26 points from 13 games with Newcastle, who have lost only once all season, on 24. Fulham could have moved level on points with Chelsea but were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Everton.

LEEDS, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Leeds United sank to a 3-2 defeat at home to Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, leaving them in the relegation zone and heaping more pressure on coach Jesse Marsch. Leeds, who are without a league win since August, are 18th in the standings on nine points after a fourth consecutive defeat. Fulham also wasted two clear efforts but took the lead in the 74th minute when full-back Bobby Decordova-Reid headed in another cross from Pereira. The goal led to Leeds fans quickly turning on American coach Marsch, some chanting "You're getting sacked in the morning". "I have a feeling that we lost two points, especially with the way we started the game and the chances we had," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said. Newcastle have already drawn with Manchester City and Manchester United this season and their only loss was a stoppage-time defeat by Liverpool. Sunday's win at Tottenham sent the clearest message yet that they can challenge for a Champions League berth. Harry Kane pulled one back for third-placed Tottenham in the 54th minute with his 10th goal of the season but Newcastle comfortably held on for the points. "Real pride in the players today and great to be part of those scenes," Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who took over last year with the club heading towards relegation, told reporters.
