A screenshot of a dog with its body submerged beneath flood water stems from a TV news segment filmed in Texas in 2016, contrary to false claims in August 2023 that it shows a dog abandoned during Hurricane Idalia. The image shows a dog positioned outside a house with its head just above water level. The screenshot resurfaced as Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida on Aug. 30 (here). On June 5, 2016, Nehls posted on Facebook saying that he had adopted the dog, called Archer (here). The screenshot originates from a local news segment aired in Texas in May 2016.
