A Turkish Airlines pilot died mid-flight, forcing the co-pilot into an emergency landing in New York City on Wednesday morning, authorities said. Flight 8JK landed safely shortly before 6 a.m at John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to an FAA statement. Pilot İlçehin Pehlivan, 59, "fainted during the flight" and when "medical intervention to our captain on the plane was ineffective," the co-pilot opted to land, according to a statement from Turkish Airlines. Unfortunately, "our captain lost his life before landing," according to the airline. The Airbus A350 took off from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport at 7:02 p.m. PT on Tuesday, according to the tracking service FlightAware, and was headed to Istanbul before the emergency unfolded.

Video showed flames coming from underneath a Frontier flight that made a hard landing in Las Vegas after reports of smoke in the cockpit Saturday, officials said. Flight 1326 was on its way from San Diego to Las Vegas when "the pilots detected smoke and declared an emergency," Frontier said in a statement. Passengers said a pressurization issue on a Delta Air Lines flight Sunday left them with bloody noses and ears. A spokesperson for the airline company said that Flight 1203 from Salt Lake City to Portland, Oregon, was unable to pressurize above 10,000 feet. Passenger Jaci Purser told NBC affiliate KSL-TV of Salt Lake City that she felt her ear pop and then bubble because of the pressure in the cabin. It's not clear what caused the pressurization issue but Delta technicians were able to fix it. The plane was briefly taken out of service Sunday morning and went back into service the following day, Delta said.

An Alaska Airlines plane was forced to abort takeoff at Nashville International Airport in Tennessee after a Southwest Airlines flight was cleared to cross from the same runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Alaska Airlines Flight 369 was headed to Seattle on Thursday morning and had received clearance to take off from air traffic control, the airline said in a statement, when Southwest Airlines Flight 2029 was cleared to cross the end of the same runway, the FAA said. The Alaska pilots had to brake so hard and fast that the tires on their plane blew out, the airline said. A Delta aircraft clipped the tail of another plane Tuesday morning at an Atlanta airport. Video taken at the airport appears to show the Endeavor plane with its tail hanging off the side of the aircraft. A United Airlines flight from New Jersey to Brazil ended up circling over the Atlantic Ocean for nearly two hours Wednesday and making an emergency landing because of a mechanical issue, flight officials said. Flight 149 departed from Newark Liberty International Airport at 11 p.m. ET Wednesday night, bound for São Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport with 256 passengers on board, according to the flight's history. The plane experienced a “mechanical issue shortly after takeoff,” United Airlines said in a statement, revealing that initial maintenance inspection points to a hydraulic pump issue. The plane, a Boeing 777-200, landed after the crew reported an "emergency," the Federal Aviation Administration said, noting that an investigation was underway.
