It will pay $87.50 per Hibbett share in cash, representing a premium of about 20% to the U.S. firm's last closing price. JD Sports shares, which have fallen more than 20% so far this year, were up 6% by 0900 GMT. The deal is expected to add to the British firm's earnings in the first full year of ownership, with cost savings expected to be at least $25 million, JD said.

JD.com set up an "Innovative Retail" division that houses its grocery business 7Fresh. The "Innovative Retail" unit will house JD's grocery store business 7Fresh and group buying unit Pinpin, a spokesperson confirmed to CNBC. Yan Xiaobing, who retired from JD in 2021 after leading the company's international business, will return to head up the Innovative Retail group, the spokesperson said. Alibaba , JD's biggest e-commerce rival in China, split its company into six separate business units this year, the biggest restructuring in its history. He said it will take time for the government's stimulus measures to show up in consumers' income and confidence. JD reported Thursday a 7.1% increase in net revenue in the fourth quarter to 295.45 billion yuan ($42.8 billion). That's below expectations for 296.2 billion yuan, according to Reuters. But Citi predicts rival e-commerce giant JD.com (9618.HK), which also holds a Singles Day shopping event, to fare somewhat better as it is strong in consumer electronics and home appliance offerings which are expected to remain popular. Singles Day has also had contend with the absence of one its two live-streaming mega sales gurus, Viya, who has been offline since being fined for tax evasion.
