REUTERS/Ammar AwadNEAR ELI SETTLEMENT, West Bank, June 20 (Reuters) - Palestinian gunmen shot dead four Israelis near a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday in an attack the militant Hamas group said was a response to a raid by Israeli forces in the flashpoint city of Jenin. The Israeli military said it was boosting forces in the West Bank after the attack. Police minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for a full-scale military operation in the West Bank and urged Jewish settlers in the area to carry a weapon. U.S.-brokered peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, aimed at establishing a state in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, collapsed in 2014 and show no sign of revival. Israel's government is set on expanding settlements in the West Bank and includes members who rule out a Palestinian state.

Axios first reported that Nides is expected to depart the post. Nides is married to Virginia Moseley, who is the executive vice president of editorial for CNN US.
Israeli security forces were deployed during the riot in the West Bank city of Hebron on Saturday. TEL AVIV—A riot by Jewish pilgrims in the West Bank city of Hebron over the weekend drew widespread condemnation with Palestinian leaders warning that the incoming right-wing Israeli government could cause further instability in the West Bank. Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides called the riot abhorrent and called for a rapid de-escalation of the situation. Outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid called the events, in which one Israeli soldier was injured, a “national disgrace.” Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz condemned the attacks on Palestinians and Israeli forces, and said those responsible would be held accountable. Incoming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued no statement about the violence in Hebron and his spokesman didn’t respond to requests for comment.
