The friend favored turtlenecks and mohair and was a style-extremist, but is Grant still held in such regard by anyone? As it happens, on the afternoon I watched the four-part “Archie”—Grant having been born Archibald Leach in 1904—Turner Classic Movies was devoting an entire day to Cary Grant movies. If there were a Mount Rushmore dedicated to matinee idols of the Golden Age of Hollywood, two of the four heads would belong to Cary Grant. You search Mr. Isaacs’s face for signs of Cary, and you find them, albeit in flashes; he has the walk, and a craggy version of Grant’s younger, springy, English-y inflection.

"Every single one of these 'extreme' things the parents are doing is they're listening to their child. In contrast, the parents Bisnow interviewed displayed enough open-mindedness and trust to help their children develop independence, confidence and skills that proved useful for their future careers, she says. Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

Between 1910 and 1997, Black farmers lost around 90% of their property in the US. In 1920, there were nearly 1 million Black farmers in the United States, accounting for 14% of all farmers. But between 1910 and 1997, Black farmers lost around 90% of their property, while white farmers only lost 2% during the same time period. She hopes to create a platform that addresses economic and racial equity for Black farmers, while also encouraging sustainable agriculture. In the 19th century, after the Southern Farmers' Alliance refused to admit Black farmers except in certain chapters, Black farmers started the Colored Farmers' National Alliance and Co-operative Union.
