That’s one reason why it’s notable that a new study finds a full 40% of Hispanic and Latino/a professionals in corporate America say they feel it is necessary to change aspects of themselves to succeed at work. “Our findings illuminate hurdles Hispanic and Latino professionals face, including the undue pressure to mask their authentic selves and heritage in pursuit of success,” said Coqual CEO Lanaya Irvin. They were also based on virtual focus groups and interviews with 100 Hispanic and Latino/a professionals and experts. When Hispanic professionals get their foot in the door, or even get promoted, many still find they are stereotyped, overlooked or underappreciated. In addition, the think tank encourages companies to focus more on increasing diversity, strengthening sponsorships of Hispanic professionals and endorsing and funding affinity groups.

The Enlightenment philosopher Baruch Spinoza almost died for his ideals one day in 1672. Spinoza, a Sephardic Jew born in Amsterdam in 1632, was a passionate and outspoken defender of freedom, tolerance and moderation. Only one of his books, about the French philosopher Descartes, could be published under his own name during his lifetime. This is perhaps why new books about him are coming out all the time, including Jonathan Israel’s 2023 magnum opus “Spinoza, Life and Legacy” and even a best-selling French novel, “Le Problème Spinoza,” by Irvin Yalom. And all that for a philosopher who was denounced by Christians and Jews as the devil’s disciple long after his own time.

Las Vegas hopes to hit the jackpot with the Super Bowl

CNN —When Super Bowl Sunday rolls around each year — whether it’s in Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles or Minneapolis — Las Vegas still draws the crowds. It took years — and a Supreme Court ruling legalizing sports betting — for the National Football League to view Las Vegas in a different light. “We’re sold out, have been for the last month,” said Paul Hobson, general manager of the Sahara Las Vegas hotel-casino. “Las Vegas has a lot of people going there for Super Bowl weekend anyway,” Stephenson said. Additionally, the visitors it attracts spend a whole lot more than the ones who would show up on your typical Super Bowl weekend, Hill said.

“America's Team.”The team that much of America loved, and perhaps just as much loved to hate. The title these days has fallen on the Kansas City Chiefs, who play the San Francisco 49ers next weekend in their fourth Super Bowl in five years. Just like so many versions of “America's Team," though, a certain amount of fatigue also is setting in. They can make it four next Sunday, when they play the 49ers in a Super Bowl trending to be the most expensive ticket in history. We’ve got an even bigger target on our back than we did last year,” Chiefs safety Justin Reid said.

Jackson Rutledge, a first-round pick by Washington in 2018, will make his major league debut on the mound Wednesday. “Nobody aims to win 70 games in a season, they want to win 90 games in a season. “They’re looking forward to coming out the other end and start being a contender in this league,” Rizzo said.

In January, Pinellas school district officials yanked Toni Morrison’s classic novel “The Bluest Eye” from high schools after a parent complained about a two-page rape scene. But in counties like Pinellas, his policies and rhetoric have already had what his critics believe is their intended effect. She objected to parts of the syllabus Mr. Robinson had distributed to his class on African-American history, which her son had briefly enrolled in. “I don’t stop my class and ask my white kids, ‘Hey, how are you feeling?’ What kind of teacher would do that?” Mr. Robinson said. A man who sold a fatal dose of fentanyl-laced heroin to Michael K. Williams, the actor who rose to fame for his portrayal of a stickup man named Omar Little on the HBO series “The Wire,” was sentenced on Friday to 10 years in prison. But it was Mr. Cartagena who sold Mr. Williams the drugs that killed him on Sept. 5, 2021. Mr. Williams, 54, met the men in front of the apartment building that day and Mr. Cartagena handed him the drugs, prosecutors said. He returned to his own apartment nearby and was found dead the following day. Mr. Cartagena, 40, who is also known as “Green Eyes,” was first introduced to heroin when he was 13 years old and living in Puerto Rico, where he grew up, his lawyers said.

The harmonic convergence between the resurrected Jason Heyward and the rampaging Los Angeles Dodgers crystallized beautifully one evening in Baltimore last month. It was in the top of the second inning at Camden Yards when Heyward smashed a three-run home run off the right-hander Tyler Wells, opening the gates to a five-run inning. And the Dodgers, being the Dodgers, adjusted accordingly. “I told him the situation, that my bet was that they were going to use a lefty the rest of the way,” said Manager Dave Roberts. “I told him, ‘You did your job to help us win this game.’ And he was like, ‘Doc, I’m in.’”

And it served its intended purpose: to naturalize inequality of status and resources in an era defined by its yawning gaps between haves and have-nots. I mention all of this as context for Richard Hanania, a rising star among conservative writers and intellectuals. For years before appearing in the pages of newspapers and publications like this one, Hanania wrote articles for white supremacist publications under a pseudonym. “The reason I’m the target of a cancellation effort is because left-wing journalists dislike anyone acknowledging statistical differences between races,” he recently wrote. But his supposedly transgressive views are little more than the warmed-over dogmas of the long-dead ideologues who believed in the scientific truth of race hierarchy.

Whoever said a friend is a friend forever has clearly never experienced a group trip that has devolved into a maelstrom of conflicting plans and bickering over restaurant bills. All your friends are not travel friends,” advises N’dea Irvin-Choy, a 27-year-old Los Angeles-based travel influencer, on her popular TikTok account. She suggests picking travel partners who share similar interests, and deciding ahead of time what kind of a trip you will be taking — relaxation, partying, adventure. Once you’re in booking mode, Mobili provides a way to see each group member’s travel bookings at once, a tool that is especially useful for larger groups. Others in the group can then collaborate with the same trip by adding their own bookings to create a group itinerary.

PATERSON, N.J. — When Bob Kendrick visited Hinchliffe Stadium in 2014, all he could do was hope. Kendrick, the president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Mo., had journeyed east for a ceremony that recognized Hinchliffe as a National Historic Landmark. The stadium is one of the last of the Negro leagues ballparks still standing, but it was almost impossible to tell at the time. So had local products like Monte Irvin and Larry Doby, who followed Jackie Robinson in the first wave of integrating the American and National Leagues on their own paths to Cooperstown. Two other teams, the New York Black Yankees and the New York Cubans, called the stadium home as well.
