I’m talking about the 60/40 portfolio, which has sometimes been considered the living heart of investing. They are merely a convenient starting point for thinking about investing and not an exact, general-purpose prescription for everyone. While it’s more complicated, it comes down to this: Don’t keep your eggs in one basket. Diversification in investing is as important now as it ever was, even if it hasn’t paid off lately. If you held a broad portfolio of stocks and bonds in 2022 — whether your mix was 60/40 or some other variant — you probably lost money.

Country Garden has said repeatedly that "home delivery" is its top priority. WHY HAS BEIJING PICKED PING AN TO RESCUE COUNTRY GARDEN? Ping An was a natural choice because it is based in Guangdong and has been a major Country Garden shareholder, said the sources. Ping An said after the Reuters report that it no longer holds Country Garden shares.

"Banks were grudging in lending, leaving non-banks asking each other for money in afternoon trade," he said. The reasons for the spike in interest rates and the ensuing market chaos are detailed here for the first time. They affect foreign exchange movements since the markets are the major avenue for the supply of money. The money market operator CFETS told traders to keep a 5% ceiling on repo transactions and said anyone involved in high-rate deals closed on Oct. 31 would need to explain themselves to regulators, according to sources who received the notice. "If the pattern of money supply and liquidity provision remains unchanged, the whole system remains fragile.

Dedicated ESG funds have also lost popularity with investors. Total assets under management in ESG funds fell by about $163.2 billion globally during the first quarter of 2023 from the year before, according to data provider Lipper. According to the latest Fed projections, officials forecast just one more interest rate hike this year — and rate cuts next year. When members of his board ask him whether interest rates could really go that high, his answer is always “yes,” he told Bloomberg. There are a lot of “potential bad outcomes,” Dimon said, but the worst-case economic scenario would be stagflation, with low growth and high interest rates.

Hollysys offers integrated services for industrial automation and rail transport, according to its website, and its control systems have been used in sensitive areas such as nuclear power stations. In August, a consortium led by Recco Control Technology and Dazheng Group Investment Holdings made an all-cash offer of $25 per share to buy the company. The special committee will discuss the next steps with Recco Control and Dazheng Group (Hong Kong) in response to the offer to acquire the company, while expediting the process to seek "additional serious and compelling offers," Hollysys said in a statement. Deutsche Bank will solicit additional potential offers on behalf of Hollysys, it added. Founded in 1993, Hollysys now has operations in China and eight other countries and regions throughout Asia.

NEW YORK, Aug 30(Reuters) - Shareholders in China's Hollysys Automation Technologies owning a total 32.2% of the automation control system maker's shares asked the board of directors to set a special shareholder meeting, according to a letter seen by Reuters. Asking for a special meeting is a highly unusual step and signals shareholders' mounting frustration with management of the U.S.-listed company, which has received takeover bids but which has not started a sales process, people familiar with the matter said. A year ago Hollysys management was ready to take the company private at a $1.8 billion valuation, Reuters reported, but nothing has happened since then. Registered shareholders have a statutory right under section 82 of the BVI Business Companies Act (British Virgin Islands) to require the Hollysys board to convene a shareholder meeting. Any shareholder also has a statutory right to apply to the court for an order requiring a shareholder meeting to be held on the basis that it is in the interest of the shareholders that such a meeting be held.

Reaction to China inflation data

Below are comments from analysts on the inflation data:XING ZHAOPENG, SENIOR CHINA STRATEGIST, ANZ, SHANGHAI"Both CPI and PPI in year-on-year terms fell into negative territory and confirmed economic deflation. "With destocking and credit expansion, we expect PPI and CPI will rebound from the bottom in the fourth quarter. The CPI deflation may put more pressure on the government to consider additional fiscal stimulus to mitigate the challenge." XIA CHUN, CHIEF ECONOMIST, YINTECH INVESTMENT HOLDINGS, HONG KONG"The lower inflation data reflects weak demand on the mainland, which is biggest challenge facing China's economy. It also shows China's slower-than-expected economic rebound is not strong enough to offer the weaker global demand and lift commodity prices."

The producer price index (PPI) declined for a 10th consecutive month, down 4.4% and faster than the forecast 4.1% fall. June 7 (Reuters) - The Telegraph group of newspapers could be sold after the Bank of Scotland appointed receivers for shares of the publisher's owners who failed to repay loans by the bank, restructuring group AlixPartners said on Wednesday. No operational changes are expected for the media businesses or their employees, and "neither the Telegraph Media Group (TMG) nor The Spectator are entering administration," AlixPartners added. The Barclay family owns shares of B.UK Ltd, a holding company within the Penultimate Investment Holdings Limited (PIHL) Group that indirectly owns Telegraph Media Group Limited (TMG) and The Spectator magazine. AlixPartners said the receivers may reach a resolution which could involve the Telegraph and Spectator businesses being sold. Sky News reported on Tuesday that Lloyds was set to launch a 600 million pound ($745.4 million) auction of the Telegraph newspapers and The Spectator magazine.

Still, it is also true that a lot of disruption occurred in between the events that prompted the "apocalypse" chatter and the firmer ground where retail real estate stands today. Recalling how these events played out is helpful in understanding the situation facing U.S. office properties. For office buildings, the pandemic knocked things out of whack. The same idea is being discussed for office buildings, but one-size will not fit all. There may be no surprise that there has been a huge drop-off in the number of loans with office properties as collateral since March.
NEW DELHI, May 13 (Reuters) - The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has proposed regulating all online platform that offer fractional ownership of real estate assets, in a bid to provide protection to small investors. Fractional ownership typically refers to small investment holdings of real estate assets. The minimum investment on these platforms typically range from 100,000 rupees to 250,000 rupees. The underlying real estate assets offered on these platforms are similar to the real estate or property defined under the REIT Regulations, said SEBI in the discussion paper. Globally such fractional ownership has been in existence since 2015 in markets such as the United States and United Arab Emirates.
After the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, President Joe Biden wants harsher penalties for executives at failed banks. On Friday, Biden released a statement calling on Congress to "impose tougher penalties for senior bank executives whose mismanagement contributed to their institutions failing." The banking industry has fallen under intense scrutiny over the past week after federal regulators shut down Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and crypto-friendly Signature Bank. Lawmakers — and now the president — want bank executives to be held accountable for actions that jeopardize taxpayer dollars. Warren, along with Sen. Richard Blumenthal, have also stressed the importance of holding bank executives accountable for failures.

SHANGHAI/HONG KONG, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Chinese brokerages are in a race to raise billions of dollars in capital to meet regulatory requirements, jumping on a market upturn to bolster operations as they brace for tougher competition from Wall Street banks on their home turf. The brokerages need fresh capital to meet Chinese risk management rules, and finance capital-intensive businesses such as margin financing and market-making, having weathered volatile markets in the last couple of years. Chinese brokerages raised just 77 billion yuan via follow-up share sales last year, Refinitiv data showed. "Securities firms need capital to transform their business model by reducing reliance on traditional businesses." Chinese brokerages face stiffer competition after Beijing allowed Western banks, including Morgan Stanley (MS.N), Goldman Sachs (GS.N) and Credit Suisse (CSGN.S), to take full control of their China brokerage units.

As Xi opens congress, China's state hands keep markets steady

SHANGHAI, Oct 17 (Reuters) - As Chinese President Xi Jinping opened the landmark Communist Party Congress, the country's vast financial bureaucracy has been busily tamping down ripples of turmoil across its currency and stock markets. Scores of companies have announced share buybacks or executive share purchase plans since Friday, when regulators unveiled plans to ease share buyback rules. Investors and analysts believe government pressure on China's largely state-controlled fund sector may have played a role in the stock market rebound. Xia Chun, chief economist at wealth manager Yintech Investment Holdings, said this follows a pattern of China stocks typically rising before a party congress and then likely falling afterwards. On Monday, several state-controlled asset managers including E Fund Management Co, China Southern Asset Management Co and Zhongtai Securities Asset Management said they were investing their own money to buy products, echoing an identical refrain of confidence in China's capital markets.
Family offices more than doubled their direct investments in startups last year to more than $120 billion, remaking the venture-capital landscape and launching a new wave of family-office funded entrepreneurs. Single family offices invested $123 billion in direct venture capital deals last year, up from $55 billion in 2020, according to a report from SVB Capital. There are now more than 10,000 family offices worldwide — most created over the past decade — with over $6 trillion in assets under management. In-house deal teams "Family offices are leaning in to the venture asset class," said Shailesh Sachdeva, managing director of SVB Capital's Family Office practice. As they balloon in size and sophistication, family offices are becoming deal powerhouses in their own right.
