Europe could be drifting in to a downturn as its biggest economies, Germany and France, fight political and economic woes at home. In Germany, composite purchasing manager's index (PMI data) measuring business activity in both sectors, came in at XXXX, down from XXX in August. In France, meanwhile, the composite PMI fell in September to an eight-month low of 47.4 from 53.1 in August. In the euro zone as a whole, the PMI data showed a decline from XXX last month to XXX, in September. Once Europe's poster-child for growth, Germany is now likened to the "sick man" of Europe by economists.

Apple shares were down 3% on Monday, leading a drop in the wider tech sector. The slide came after analyst Ming-Chi Kuo warned of light iPhone 16 demand. The lack of demand for the newest iPhone is likely because Apple has yet to roll out its most anticipated new feature, Apple Intelligence, Kuo said. Advertisement"One of the key factors for the lower-than-expected demand for the iPhone 16 Pro series is that the major selling point, Apple Intelligence, is not available at launch alongside the iPhone 16 release," Kuo said in a Sunday note. "In that case, I believe that Apple will implement more aggressive iPhone product strategies in 2025 to stimulate market demand," Kuo said.

The joint exercises are taking place in the Sea of Japan and Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk. Some analysts, though, are pointing to tensions between Russia and China that could weaken the alliance. But for now, the alliance is growing closer, and Thomson said that the US will be watching the latest military exercises between Russia and China closely.

Sports betting is continuing its integration into modern sports culture, and industry leaders do not expect the growth to slow down any time soon. As much tailwind as sports betting companies have received from growing legalization and popularity across the country, taxes and ethical concerns have presented difficulties. Several states have a 51% tax on sports betting companies, and Illinois recently approved a tax increase on sports betting revenue. Sports betting has also garnered negative headlines in recent months as professional sports leagues have struggled to effectively stop players from violating betting and gambling rules. The speakers also addressed widespread concerns about whether the nature of sports betting companies' business models discourages them from providing proper guardrails to stop gambling problems.

A few weeks ago, I started asking left-leaning people their thoughts on slurs being peppered into everyday conversations. An inclusive eraKayla Cash, a 31-year-old PR manager, grew up using words she now considers offensive. Some of the language felt ubiquitous; she remembers the 2004 release of "Let's Get It Started," the Grammy-winning Black Eyed Peas hit that was originally released as "Let's Get Retarded." It was billed as discussions between two "bohemian layabouts" who called out performative aspects of progressive politics — while using language more often associated with the right, such as that offensive term for someone with intellectual disabilities. Looser language and new rulesEveryone I talked to for this story had rules for which words they would and wouldn't say.

Gen Z has a unique way of learning, and they seek a different path to navigate college. For example, Gen Z highly favors a teaching method known as the flipped classroom, where students watch online videos and expert-narrated demonstrations before coming to class. General view of the UBS building in Manhattan, New York City, on June 5, 2023. Swiss banking giant UBS on Wednesday smashed net profit expectations for the second quarter, as revenue came in higher than expected. Net profit attributable to shareholders came in at $1.136 billion for the period, versus a company-compiled consensus forecast of $528 million. UBS had swung back to profit in the first quarter after two quarterly losses, but it warned that its net interest income would fall in both its global wealth management and its personal and corporate banking divisions. It has now been over a year since UBS completed the legal takeover of Credit Suisse, triggering a huge integration process and forming a wealth management juggernaut.
