Hefty capital gains tax bills could be around the corner for investors in certain mutual funds. Fund families are notifying shareholders of estimated capital gains distributions for 2024, which they will issue to investors in December. This year has been a strong one for stocks, with the S & P 500 up more than 25%, and double-digit distributions from some mutual funds are on deck. See below for a few funds that are expected to spin out double-digit capital gains distributions this year, per Morningstar. If your losses exceed your capital gains, you can also apply up to $3,000 of them toward ordinary income on your federal return.

"The Fed rate cuts are likely to support inflows to money market funds over the course of the next year," Antoniewicz said. While retail investors may slow their pace of investment, institutional flows tend to ramp up since yields on money market funds lag the funds rate, she noted. That cash can stay in a money market fund, a high yield saving account or certificates of deposit. The bucket for three to five years has about 70% in fixed income, with a small amount of high yield bonds added that have durations under five years. He'll dip more into high yield, as well as private credit, in the six to 10-year fixed income category.

"We've had a tremendous amount of interest [from private equity firms], and we believe this could make sense for us in a limited fashion, probably no more than 10% of a team. The National Football League is considering allowing minority private equity ownership for its 32 teams of up to 10%, Commissioner Roger Goodell said in an exclusive CNBC interview Thursday. "I think it may be leading to some rethink into the consideration of letting private equity, as an example, or institutional investors into the NFL." Private equity incentives around reaching investment targets and exit thresholds could alter the motivations for ownership in ways that make the bigger sports leagues uncomfortable. Private equity firms, tasked with finding investment vehicles to make returns on their assets under management, may be better suited to minority ownership.

CNBC runs through everything you need to know about the bitcoin ETF milestone. As crypto investors look to assess what the market impact of a bitcoin ETF might be, many are comparing Wednesday's news to the greenlighting of the SPDR Gold Shares ETF — the first-ever spot gold ETF — in 2004. A bitcoin ETF opens up the audience of people and institutions that can buy and sell bitcoin to those with little experience trading cryptocurrency. ORLANDO, Florida, Nov 29 (Reuters) - If cash has been king, the Fed may be plotting regicide. But once the first Fed cut comes into view, that money will move rapidly out the maturity curve and into riskier assets. A recent report by BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, notes that on average, cash returns 4.5% in the year following the final Fed rate hike, significantly underperforming a wide array of asset classes. Of that, $2.24 trillion is in retail investor funds and $3.52 trillion is in institutional funds. According to Bank of America, investors have poured $1.2 trillion into money market funds so far this year.

Treasury bond indexes are down as much as 2.5% this year, not a huge move and most of it has come since Federal Reserve policymakers published their upwardly revised median policy projections on Sept. 20. For an investor with a typical portfolio weighted 60% stocks and 40% bonds, these losses are more than offset by double-digit equity returns. Their base case is for a 14% return on 10-year Treasuries, rising to 20% in the event of recession. That's about 25% of money in all 401(k) plans. Typically, as long as you have $5,000 invested in your employer's plan, you can leave it there when you leave. A 401(k) plan comes with limited investment options, and the ones in your old plan may not be very attractive. This makes a lot of sense for people who gravitate toward simple, passive investing strategies, which tend to be available in just about every 401(k) plan, says Betz. A 401(k) is just about always going to come with a limited menu of investment options, and maybe this one is full of high-fee, low-performing mutual funds.

Europe, often a few years behind when it comes to startup trends, is also starting to produce its own solo GPs. After a record-breaking 2021, bigger VC funds in Europe have generally found it more challenging to raise their next funds. Lots of fund managers speak to everyone and waste lots of time going over unqualified leads," she said. In short, knowing who to pitch for investment is crucial when looking to raise funds. One advantage for solo funds in Europe is that smaller funds — often $15 million to $20 million — are easier to return than larger funds, said David Cruz e Silva, an angel investor and LP in smaller VC funds through EU.VC.

As a British company, Arm qualifies as a foreign private issuer in the U.S. and its shares will count as American depositary shares, or ADSs. At the upper end of that range, CNBC estimates that Arm will likely raise up to $4.87 billion. At the lower end, the IPO would fetch $4.49 billion of fresh capital for Arm. At the upper end of the pricing range, Arm would also attain a total valuation of $52 billion, according to CNBC calculations. MADRID, April 13 (Reuters) - Ferrovial (FER.MC) shareholders vote on Thursday on a plan to move the Spanish construction group's holding company to the Netherlands, paving the way to a listing in the U.S. and potentially access to subsidies available there. The government fears more companies could follow suit and argues that a full U.S. listing is perfectly possible for a Spain-based company, although there are no such precedents. The move must be approved by a majority of shareholders to go ahead in a meeting that starts at midday (1000 GMT). Several investment funds have said they will vote in favour and two independent proxy advisers recommended backing the move. Ferrovial also wants to approach institutional funds in the U.S. willing to buy stakes if it gets a listing there.
