Some investors looking for steady income in retirement are turning to managed payout funds. There are just a handful of these niche mutual funds, which pay monthly income to investors, Morningstar portfolio strategist Amy Arnott said. Schwab offers three such funds: Schwab Monthly Income Fund - Income Payout (SWLRX), Schwab Monthly Income Fund - Flexible Payout (SWKRX) and Schwab Monthly Income Fund - Target Payout (SWJRX). The Schwab Monthly Income Fund - Target Payout (SWJRX), on the other hand, aims to offer a 5% annual payout. Managed payout funds are not offered in many defined contribution plans, such as 401(k)s. In fact, a 2022 Cerulli survey of defined contribution plan consultants showed just 17% of the plans offered any managed payout funds.

If you like the Pink Drink, you should try the even better Mango Dragonfruit Refresher. Starbucks' Caramel Apple Spice is much better than its Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Mary Meisenzahl/InsiderThe most anticipated holiday drink is the Pumpkin Spice Latte, but the real MVP for autumn is the Caramel Apple Spice. Nitro cold brew is basically a smoother, less watery version of regular cold brew — it's pre-chilled, so ice is omitted from the drink. The Pink Drink is overrated – Mango Dragonfruit is the best Refresher If you like the Pink Drink, try some other Refreshers.

LONDON, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Swiss insurer Baloise (BALN.S) is in talks to sell around 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) of life insurance policies in Belgium, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters. The efforts come as other traditional insurers sell non-core portfolios with a view to freeing up capital held against those liabilities. In 2020, the Swiss group purchased the non-life insurance operations of Apollo-backed Athora. Baloise saw premiums in its non-life insurance business grow by close to 6% in the first nine months of the year to 3.4 billion Swiss francs ($3.9 billion) globally. However, life insurance premiums dropped more than 4% to 2.9 billion francs during the same period, according to its latest earnings release.

LONDON, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Four major banks, including Standard Chartered Plc (STAN.L) and HSBC Plc (HSBA.L), have quit a United Nations-backed initiative to scrutinise climate targets set by corporations, according to people familiar with the matter. Many lenders say they should finance fossil fuels as long as economies depend on them. The spokesperson added that Standard Chartered was seeking alternative third-party validation of its climate targets and that it was setting science-based targets through the NZBA. It will still require them to cease the financing of fossil fuel projects that would weigh on their longer-term emissions targets. Credit Agricole (CAGR.PA), ING (INGA.AS), BBVA (BBVA.MC) and Swedbank (SWEDa.ST) told Reuters they remained committed to SBTi validating their emissions targets.

However, Wilders took a more pragmatic approach during the campaign and he will need to collaborate with pro-EU parties if he wants to govern. Opponents of a critical pension fund reform, which went into effect in July, now have a majority in parliament. There is broad support for raising taxation on banks, including from Wilders' party, which also backs taxing lenders' windfall profits from higher interest rates.

Vodafone will struggle to get clean exit in Spain

REUTERS/Toby Melville Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Oct 30 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Vodafone’s (VOD.L) boss Margherita Della Valle is cleaning up the sprawling 21 billion pound telecom group, but it’s a tough job. A potentially messy exit in Spain illustrates the point. Della Valle lacks an obvious partner in the country: local giant Telefónica (TEF.MC) is too big, while rivals Orange (ORAN.PA) and MásMóvil are merging with one another. As a result, Vodafone may have found itself a potentially problematic counterparty for the Spanish business, which Della Valle has put under strategic review. Investors might be reassured that Della Valle is making things happen, but a clean break in Spain looks increasingly unlikely.

SANTIAGO, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Peru's Kimberly Garcia won gold in the Pan American Games women's 20 kilometre race walk on Sunday but her time was voided after it was discovered the course was several kilometres short. Ecuador's Glenda Morejon took silver and Peru's Evelyn Inga bronze after completing a route which athletes believe was about 3km short. With women's event completed and the men's race about to get underway organisers delayed the start for over an hour to quickly remeasure the route to the official distance. Ecuador's Alexander Hurtado would win the men's gold in 1:19.20 just four seconds ahead of world championship bronze medallist Caio Bonfim of Brazil. "The expert commissioned by APA, Mr. Marcelo Ithurralde, did not take accurate measurements of the route the athletes took during the race.

“They are way smarter than you think,” Ms. Hillemacher said. Now, in a study published in the journal PLOS One on Wednesday, Ms. Hillemacher and her colleagues say they have found evidence that roosters can recognize themselves in mirrors. The mirror test is a common, but contested, test of self-awareness. The mirror test has since been used to assess self-recognition in many other species. But different cognitive processes are active in different situations, and there’s no reason to think that the mirror test is accurate for animals with vastly different sensory abilities and social systems than what chimps have.

CNN —Splashing out an apartment in the south of France and renovating it yourself may sound like a difficult – and hugely expensive – task. Swiss Re nominates new chairman after Ermotti goes to UBS

FRANKFURT, July 12 (Reuters) - The insurer Swiss Re (SRENH.S) said on Wednesday that it planned to promote its deputy chairman Jacques de Vaucleroy to the role of permanent chairman of the board after his predecessor Sergio Ermotti resigned to lead UBS. The reshuffle is part of the continuing fallout from Swiss authorities' rescue of Credit Suisse in a shotgun merger with UBS and new management at the helm. De Vaucleroy, a Belgian previously with management roles at the French insurer AXA (AXAF.PA) and the Dutch bank ING (INGA.AS), has been acting as chairman since Ermotti left the chairmanship in April. Following the board's nomination, de Vaucleroy will stand for election as chairman in April at the company's annual general meeting. The biggest risk it identified was that shadow banks withdrew their funds from banks, such as deposits and repurchase agreements. These account for 13% of all traditional banks' liabilities -- or more for larger banks. This could happen if the shadow banks -- or non-bank financial intermediaries (NBFI) in the regulators' jargon -- were themselves hit by outflows or lost confidence in a bank. Other spillover channels included forced sales of assets by shadow banks, which would cause losses at traditional banks because their portfolios often overlap or are correlated, the ECB said. It added that distress at systemically important lenders would also spell trouble for shadow banks.
May 4 (Reuters) - The governing body of cycling (UCI) has agreed to "re-open consultation" around transgender women competing in elite female events. The decision was prompted by American Austin Killips becoming the first transgender rider to win a UCI women's stage race. "The UCI's objective remains the same: to take into consideration... the desire of transgender athletes to practice cycling. "The UCI also hears the voices of female athletes and their concerns about an equal playing field for competitors, and will take into account all elements, including the evolution of scientific knowledge." The UCI toughened its rules for transgender women to compete in its events last year, halving the maximum permitted plasma testosterone level to 2.5 nanomoles per litre and doubling the transition period to 24 months.
CNN —Cycling’s governing body – the UCI – has defended its transgender policy after Austin Killips won overall victory in the recent Tour of the Gila in New Mexico. Killips is the first openly transgender woman to win an official UCI women’s stage race, according to the Tour of the Gila website. Killips also won the Queen of the Mountains polka dot jersey, which is awarded to the best climber. “The UCI acknowledges that transgender athletes may wish to compete in accordance with their gender identity,” the governing body said in a statement sent to CNN on Wednesday. Among the critics of Killips’ victory on Sunday was former Olympic cyclist Inga Thompson, who said on Twitter that the UCI is “effectively killing off women’s cycling” with its policy on transgender athletes competing in women’s categories.

May 2 (Reuters) - Cycling's governing body the UCI has defended its policy on transgender athletes competing in female events after American Austin Killips fuelled the debate by winning the Tour of the Gila in New Mexico on Sunday. The 27-year-old Killips won the fifth and final stage of the race to become the first transgender cyclist to triumph in an official UCI stage race. In a statement on Tuesday the UCI said: "The UCI acknowledges that transgender athletes may wish to compete in accordance with their gender identity. "The UCI rules are based on the latest scientific knowledge and have been applied in a consistent manner. British Cycling changed its rules last year to ban transgender women from elite races, pending a full review.

That’s the best explanation for why Chair Colm Kelleher on Wednesday said the Swiss bank was replacing CEO Ralph Hamers with erstwhile boss Sergio Ermotti. Though the move violates several corporate-governance red lines, it improves the group’s chances of successfully absorbing stricken rival Credit Suisse (CSGN.S). Nor was his hesitant delivery in a call with analysts after announcing the Credit Suisse deal. During his previous spell in charge, UBS held talks with Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE) and discussed a merger with Credit Suisse. Ermotti, a Swiss national, led the Swiss bank for nine years, departing in late 2020, and is currently chair of Swiss Re.

Core lending growth was a modest 3.1 billion euros, down from 13.4 billion euros in the fourth quarter of 2021. Interest margins were 1.36% versus 1.37% a year ago, but Van Rijswijk said they should improve in 2023. Analysts had forecast net profit at 1.03 billion euros according to data from Refinitiv, up from 945 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2021. Loan loss provisions of 269 million were down 22% from 346 million euros a year ago. Total income rose 5% to 4.87 billion euros thanks to higher rates, offset by lower fees and commissions.
LONDON/AMSTERDAM, Jan 23(Reuters) - Dutch insurer ASR (ASRNL.AS) will consider a sale of its banking arm after completing its acquisition of rival Aegon's (AEGN.AS) domestic operations, a source close to the matter told Reuters. The lending business, however, is likely to be put up for sale, given ASR's previous stance on banking operations, the source said on condition of anonymity because the discussions are private. ASR labelled its original banking arm, ASR Bank, as "non-core" in 2018 and sold part of it to rival Achmea the following year. Aegon Bank had 16.2 billion euros ($17.6 billion) in assets on its balance sheet at the end of 2021, with 735.2 million euros of equity. ASR paid 2.5 billion euros in cash for Aegon's Dutch operations, with Aegon to retain a 30% stake in the enlarged group.
The transaction is also fraught with regulatory risks, analysts said, though RBC argues that HSBC's Canada business accounts for just 2% of Canadian banking market share. The finance minister has the authority to impose any terms and conditions, the finance department said in a statement. "This regulatory assessment isn't likely to be completed for some time," Calvin Goldman, former commissioner of Canada's competition bureau, told Reuters, referring to the latest deal. QUICK MOVEDespite the expected regulatory risks, RBC was keen to move quickly. RBC is paying 9.4 times HSBC's 2024 adjusted earnings, which KBW analysts said was a steep price, though offset by savings potentials.
A "battery passport" that traces everything from a battery's mining to recycling could help. Experts say using the battery passport could separate auto-industry winners from losers. That challenge could be alleviated by the "battery passport," a new way of documenting where all the bits of a battery come from and where they're going. In Europe, newer regulations have increased scrutiny of battery sustainability and safety. The battery passport could make it easier to get through them.
ECB's Enria calls time on era of big bank buybacks

FRANKFURT, Nov 10 (Reuters) - The European Central Bank's top supervisor Andrea Enria appeared to call time on a season of large share buybacks by banks on Thursday as the economy weakens. Banks including UniCredit (CRDI.MI) and Societe Generale (SOGN.PA) have been reporting bumper profits and announcing dividends and share buybacks, boosted by a sharp increase in interest rates and a trading boom after more than a decade of mostly meagre returns. "Banks have been able to distribute big, until recently we had quite a number of hefty share buybacks," Andrea Enria told an event at the Dutch central bank. Reuters reported on Wednesday supervisors were urging banks to preserve capital in the face of a souring economic outlook after finding they were making overly optimistic assumptions about the economic outlook. This year, the ECB has given the green light to all buybacks that were put up for approval, including from UniCredit, Societe Generale and ING (INGA.AS).
