"From our perspective, AI looks like a really big data problem," said Ben Golub, CEO of decentralized cloud storage company Storj. This startup is joined by legacy enterprises like Dell and IBM in tackling data storage efficiency for economic and environmental sustainability. For those that do go decentralized, Lewis says it's still important to maintain what he calls "centralized management of a decentralized architecture." IBM recently launched its Cloud Carbon Calculator, an AI-informed dashboard designed to give clients access to standards-based greenhouse gas emissions data and help manage their cloud carbon footprint. Which workloads are best suited for a decentralized data storage model?

The world's largest PC maker has now suffered four consecutive quarters of sales declines. Revenue in the April-June quarter fell to $12.9 billion, below a $13.84 billion average of seven analyst estimates compiled by Refinitiv. Lenovo shares in Hong Kong fell as much as 6% after the result but recouped some losses to trade down 2.9%, while the benchmark index (.HSI) gained 0.9%. However, revenue started contracting last year as demand began to fall, weighed down by rising interest rates and soaring inflation. "The group’s PC business is stabilizing and well-positioned for a year-on-year recovery in the later part of 2023," Lenovo said in a statement.

Why California Insists on Wasting Its Scarce Water Supply
  + stars: | 2022-09-16 | by ( Edward Ring | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +1 min
Review & Outlook: Despite regular power shortages in California, on Sept. 16, 2022, Governor Gavin Newsom signed 40 new climate bills to amp up California’s green-energy shock experiment. The impasse pits California against everyone else. If California’s political leaders had the political will, they could solve the problem for every member of the Colorado River Compact by developing infrastructure to use untapped sources of water. Unlike anywhere else in the American Southwest, California can rely on so-called atmospheric rivers that saturate the state with enough rain to supply the state’s farms and cities with adequate water. Californians can, and must, agree on new infrastructure solutions that will safely harvest more of this water for human consumption.
