Here are some of the major investment deals involving nickel in Indonesia:Jan. 2020: Indonesia bans exports of unprocessed nickel to attract investment in downstream processing. Dec. 2020: Indonesia's investment ministry signs an MOU with LG Energy Solution (373220.KS) on integrated EV battery investment with total investment of $9.8 billion. 2021: Indonesia establishes the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), a joint venture of state owned enterprises to cooperate with foreign investors in developing an EV battery supply chain. Jan. 2022: Indonesia's Investment Ministry signs an MoU with Foxconn (2317.TW), Gogoro Inc, IBC and Indika Energy (INDY.JK) for investment in electric vehicle and battery development. Sept 2022: Vale Indonesia signs an agreement with Zhejiang Huayou to build a second plant to produce nickel MHP with 60,000 tonnes capacity.

JAKARTA, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Coal miner PT Indika Energy (INDY.JK) and Taiwan-based Foxconn (2317.TW), which are partnering to make electric vehicles in Indonesia, are considering bringing in a Thai firm as a third partner, Indika's top executive told Reuters on Wednesday. Arsjad Rasjid, President Director of Indonesian miner Indika, declined to name the Thai company nor any target for the completion of the partnership due to ongoing negotiations, but said the three could invest in EV or EV battery production. In September, Indika and Foxconn launched a $2 billion joint venture to make EVs, batteries and energy storage in Indonesia. Foxconn, Apple's biggest iPhone maker, also has a $1 billion joint venture with Thai energy group PTT (PTT.BK) to produce battery EVs. Indika is one of the top coal miners in Indonesia, which is the world's biggest coal exporter.

Cargobotul X-Press Pearl, încărcat cu substanțe chimice, a început să se scufunde lângă Sri Lanka, după ce a ars aproape două săptămâni, informează BBC. Ministrul Pescuitului a suspendat accesul navelor care vin din Laguna Negombo și pescuitul în zonă, după ce echipele de intervenție au anunțat că nava a început să se scufunde în locul în care se află. Faptul că Sri Lanka a permis accesul navei în apele sale teritoriale, deși ea fusese respinsă de alte două țări, a provocat furia cetățenilor. Nava ancorată în largul portului Colombo a anunțat pe 20 mai un incendiu la bord, produs din cauza unei scurgeri la un container de substanțe chimice. Vasul de 186 de metri transporta 1.486 de containere cu câte 25 de tone de acid azotic, dar și alte substanțe chimice și produse cosmetice, încărcate din portul indian Hazira, pe 15 mai.
