Reuters was first to report the investment plans on Wednesday. The investment decisions follow a meeting between Foxconn Chairman Young Liu, Karnataka's IT minister Priyank Kharge, and Industries Minister MB Patil. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also attracting investors for semiconductor manufacturing, which is his key business agenda currently. In Karnataka, Foxconn will collaborate with Applied Materials on a project for making semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and create jobs for around 1,000 people. India's Tamil Nadu state has also announced that Foxconn will invest $194 million in a new electronic components manufacturing facility that will create 6,000 jobs.

Aug 1 (Reuters) - International Battery Company (IBC) has signed an investment pact worth 80 billion rupees ($971.89 million) with India's southern state of Karnataka to build a battery manufacturing facility, the state's minister said on Tuesday. The manufacturing facility will be spread across 100 acres in the state, Minister for Commerce & Industries, Infrastructure MB Patil said in a post on messaging platform X.Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday that the company would manufacture lithium-ion cells at the facility. IBC plans to begin production by 2025, Bloomberg News reported, citing Gunjan Krishna, commissioner at Karnataka's Industries and Commerce Department, adding that the private company is aiming to ramp up capacity to 10 gigawatt by 2028. The company, which met state government officials in June, had then expressed an interest in investing on battery production in Karnataka, Patil had said in a post in June. BENGALURU, June 30 (Reuters) - India's Karnataka High Court on Friday dismissed Twitter's plea challenging the federal government's orders to block tweets and accounts and imposed a fine of 5 million rupees ($60,943.65), a lawyer for Twitter told Reuters. The court on Friday ruled that Twitter was served notices, to which it did not comply, India's Deputy Minister for Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said in a tweet. The U.S.-based firm had last year asked the court to overturn some government orders to remove content from the social media platform. The country's IT act allows the government to block public access to content in the interest of national security, among other reasons. BENGALURU, June 1 (Reuters) - Apple Inc (AAPL.O) supplier Foxconn (2317.TW) will start manufacturing iPhones in the southern Indian state of Karnataka by April 2024, the state government said on Thursday. Foxconn, the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer, has set a target of manufacturing 20 million iPhones a year at the plant in Devanahalli, on the outskirts of state capital and tech hub Bengaluru. Apple has been shifting production away from China after the country's strict COVID-related restrictions disrupted the production of new iPhones and other devices in the country. The tech giant is also looking to avoid a hit to its business due to tensions between Beijing and Washington. A spokesperson for Foxconn did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

NEW DELHI, March 24 (Reuters) - Apple Inc's (AAPL.O) Taiwanese supplier Pegatron Corp (4938.TW) is in talks to open a second India factory, said two sources with direct knowledge of the matter, as the U.S. tech giant's partners continue to diversify production away from China. Pegatron currently accounts for 10% of Apple's iPhone production in India on an annualised basis, research firm Counterpoint said. The talks for starting a second Pegatron facility on lease are ongoing and it will be located inside Mahindra World City near Chennai, just around where the company inaugurated the first plant in September 2022. India is the second biggest smartphone market in the world, where Apple also plans to assemble iPad tablets and AirPods. Last week, Reuters reported Foxconn has plans to build a $200 million factory in India to produce the wireless earphones for Apple after winning a contract.

Bloomberg News had earlier reported that Apple partner Foxconn Technology Group planned to invest about $700 million in the Karnataka site to ramp up local production. The state's investment promotion division said in a tweet that the move would generate 100,000 employment in the next 10 years. Foxconn , one of Apple' s largest suppliers and a major manufacturer of iPhone components, will invest around $700 million to build a new plant in India's Karnataka state, Bloomberg reported Friday. Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, said Foxconn will build an iPhone parts plant on a 300-acre site near Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport. The effort will be one of the largest investments by Foxconn in India, Bloomberg reported. Those lockdowns prompted widespread national dissent, and videos of Foxconn employees fleeing the company's iPhone manufacturing facility spread widely on Western social media. Foxconn already maintains a presence in India through a Chennai-proximate factory in eastern India.
