President Joe Biden will keep Christopher Wray on as FBI director, a White House official told NBC News on Thursday. White House press secretary Jen Psaki prompted some raised eyebrows in law enforcement and intelligence circles on Wednesday when she declined to say in a news briefing whether Biden had confidence in Wray. The FBI is leading an investigation intothe attack. Inspector General Michael Horowitz said last week that he will look at the kind of threat information available beforehand and how widely it was shared with U.S. Capitol Police and other law enforcement agencies. Wray, who has more than six years left in his 10-year term, had no indication that Biden or his team was dissatisfied with him, a senior FBI official said Wednesday night, adding that “the sentiments shared have all been positive.”Some influential voices have been critical of the FBI's response to the riot, however.

But the Constitution does not require this, and Trump could secretly issue preemptive pardons to family members and associates, or even himself, said Alonso. The has a well-known, but long-classified, program that trained dolphins to protect ships by detecting or attacking attackers in the water. In one exercise in 1980, Navy SEALs were tasked with evading those dolphins in order to attack an aircraft carrier — here's how they did it. A lot of what we trained to do was carry out common tasks, but we were testing new ideas regularly. We were to be cannon fodder for the training element that ran this special force of water attack mammals. This was appealing to the swimmers as a dolphin attack might just hit the boards instead of their tender underbellies.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - For Joe Biden, becoming president of the United States was the realization of a decades-long quest, with two previous failed bids. On Wednesday, in becoming the 46th U.S. president, Biden took the helm of a nation with deep political divisions in the midst of a public health crisis that has battered the world’s largest economy. Biden opted not to run for president in 2016, only to watch Trump defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton. An effort by Trump to dig up dirt on Biden resulted in the first of two impeachments of Trump in the Democratic-controlled U.S. House of Representatives. Despite years of partisan hostilities in Washington, Biden has said he remains a believer in bipartisanship.

Former President Donald Trump faces numerous legal issues at the federal and state levels that could last for years. Trump could face criminal and civil matters at the federal, state, and local levels. By doing so, the now ex-president opened himself up to federal, state, and local prosecution for election-law violations, several election-law experts told Insider. Whether Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr does anything is another matter. Three Democratic members of Congress, in two separate requests filed in late December, have asked the Department of Justice and Federal Election Commission to investigate whether the company violated election laws.

She eventually relented: Mr. Biden was chosen as President Barack Obama’s vice president in 2008 after an unsuccessful presidential run. But on Wednesday, Dr. Biden arrived at the White House with a higher profile, a platform similar to the one she had as second lady, and an East Wing stocked with aides she trusts. Last week, Dr. Biden appointed Rory Brosius, a former Biden campaign adviser, as director for the Joining Forces initiative, a program supporting military families Dr. Biden started with Michelle Obama when she was first lady. Dr. Biden is also expected to push for free community college and raise awareness for breast cancer prevention, aides said. WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump did not build a wall or end American carnage or finish his term with a robust economy. Julian Zelizer, a professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University, said Trump shook the foundations of the country over four years. "He proudly led a radicalized Republican Party and exposed just how extreme the party had become in pursuit of partisan power," Zelizer said by email. "He, in every respect, was unworthy to be president," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told MSNBC's Joy Reid in an interview broadcast Tuesday. "It's not 'lessons learned,'" Pelosi said of Trump, "because it was so evident all along what a disgrace he was."

Joe Biden doesn't have a magic wand to fix the economy

The US economy lost 22 million jobs in March and April and ended the year with another 140,000 net jobs decline. Even with the 12.5 million jobs recovered in between, that left the headcount at US employers down nearly 10 million during the pandemic. Moody's forecast that those jobs won't be fully recovered until 2022, even if Biden gets his full package. This first package is more than twice as much as the $787 billion stimulus package passed soon after Barack Obama and Biden took office in 2009, in the depths of the Great Recession. It's not clear how much of the $1.9 trillion that Biden is asking for will be approved by a divided Congress.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The timing of President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial could come into clearer focus on Friday when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to take questions about her next steps at a morning news conference at the U.S. Capitol. He will likely be the first president to face an impeachment trial after leaving office. According to Senate rules, the trial would start the day after the charge is sent over by the House. The last time the House voted to impeach Trump, in December 2019, Pelosi did not transmit the charges to the Senate for weeks. Biden has urged lawmakers not to allow Trump’s impeachment trial to interfere with other priorities in his early days in office, such as approval of his Cabinet and proposed legislation.
