Open AI CEO Sam Altman said he doesn't see AI replacing human writers. AI's use in writing has grown since ChatGPT's launch, with some authors even using AI to write and illustrate books. AdvertisementWhile multiple jobs are seemingly at risk of one day being replaced by AI, Sam Altman doesn't believe writers are one of them. One freelance writer previously told BI that they lost a job after their client began using AI to replace his services. But Altman remains confident that human writers will maintain an advantage over AI — original idea generation.

Martin's personal success with the challenge inspired her to bring the tradition to the Google offices. And actually surveys are showing that people are more concerned about sustainability, they're more concerned about their impacts on communities. Ruth Westheimer, the psychologist known as Dr. Ruth, died on Friday at 96 after a long career as America’s best-known (and, arguably, least likely) sex therapist. For decades, she offered frank sex advice, often with her distinct giggle, always with an abiding emphasis on the idea that sex should be a source of joy, not shame. Millions of people tuned into her radio shows, watched her television appearances and gobbled up her books and interviews, reassured by the warmth and directness with which she approached taboo topics. In her later years, Dr. Ruth turned her signature candor and humor to the continuing loneliness crisis. Now, The New York Times is looking to hear from those who benefited from her life’s work: What did Dr. Ruth teach you about sex, love or human connection?

The find suggested that members of the community cared for and looked after the vulnerable child, who lived at least 146,000 years ago. The research is at odds with the image of Neanderthals, ancient human relatives who went extinct around 40,000 years ago, as brutish cavemen. The study did not include precise dating of the bone, which would require extraction of ancient DNA, but Neanderthals occupied the site 146,000 to 273,000 years ago. Study of the fossil revealed abnormalities in the ear bone. “For decades, it has been known that Neanderthals cared for and looked after their vulnerable companions,” Conde-Valverde said.

One day it will be better than a real [girlfriend]. This week, OpenAI released an update to its ChatGPT chatbot, an indication that the inhuman future foretold by the Andreessen Horowitz story is fast approaching. While some observers, including the Times Opinion contributing writer Julia Angwin, who called ChatGPT’s recent update “rather routine,” weren’t particularly impressed, there’s been plenty of hype about the potential for humanlike chatbots to ameliorate emotional challenges, particularly loneliness and social isolation.

New York CNN —Ten years after creating a new model for dating apps with its “women make the first move” feature, Bumble is opening the door to men starting conversations on its platform. Bumble is rolling out a new feature called “opening moves” that will let female users set a prompt to which male suitors can respond to initiate a conversation. The feature reverses a longstanding requirement by the app that women send the first message to their matches, which Bumble said gave women more power over their dating lives. Jones sees the Bumble redesign as a way to help the platform meet that moment. The changes could be key to returning Bumble — which also owns dating apps Badoo and Fruitz — to profitability after it posted a $1.9 million net loss last year.

After three decades researching human hope and happiness, I discovered a method you can use to measure your happiness. It's based on this simple equation: Hope ÷ Hunger = Happiness This math formula — hope divided by hunger equals happiness — says that the more hopeful and less hungry you are, the happier you become. If you're flourishing, on the other hand, it means you're happy, full of hope, and functioning well emotionally and socially. So if you can confidently make these six statements, you're flourishing — living a happier, more hopeful life than most people:1. When you have something to contribute, it means you're a consequential member of the community.

Making new friends can feel more daunting when you're past the stages of playgrounds, school sports teams, and dorm rooms. And the average person loses two social ties, including friends, when they get into a romantic relationship. As a psychologist and expert on human connection, I know that the people who are most successful in building and rebuilding their social circles are the ones who don't wait for new friends to come to them. I'd love to stay in touch, if you're open to it. People tend to be particularly open to building a connection when some sort of foundation is already in place.
