Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman said a UK police warrant to search his home was unlawfully obtained, per Reuters. He wants to overturn the warrant which he said was obtained based on allegations from a 2007 report. Back in December, the UK National Crime Agency, or NCA, searched Fridman's multi-million dollar home over several allegations — including conspiracy to evade UK sanctions and money laundering — per Reuters. Cathryn McGahey, the NCA's lawyer, said in court filings the UK government agency admitted its raid on Fridman's house was "unlawful," per Reuters. An NCA spokesperson told Insider that it accepted that the search warrant contained technical errors.

LONDON, June 30 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's government on Friday asked London's High Court to stop a public inquiry into its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic forcing it to hand over some internal WhatsApp messages. Britain's Cabinet Office refused to provide WhatsApp messages concerning the government's handling of the pandemic and other political issues earlier this month, saying some of the material sought was "unambiguously irrelevant". However, the Cabinet Office has brought a legal challenge over the inquiry's demands, which its lawyer James Eadie told the court was brought "with some considerable reluctance". Eadie added the WhatsApp messages contained references to personal and family information and "comments of a personal nature" about identifiable government figures. But lawyers representing Hallett said the limits the Cabinet Office sought to place on public inquiries' powers to compel the production of documents was "flawed and unworkable".

LONDON, June 19 (Reuters) - Former prime minister David Cameron told an inquiry on Monday that Britain was prepared for a flu-type pandemic but not enough work was done in advance to confront an asymptomatic disease similar to COVID-19. Britain is holding an inquiry into the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic after Britain recorded one of the world's highest death tolls. It could prove a headache for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who was finance minister during the pandemic and faces an election expected next year. "When you think: what would be different if more time had been spent on a high-infectious asymptomatic pandemic, different recommendations would've been made about what was necessary to prepare for." Cameron's finance minister George Osborne will testify on Tuesday while Jeremy Hunt, the current finance minister and health minister under Cameron, will give evidence on Wednesday.

REUTERS/Henry NichollsLONDON, June 6 (Reuters) - The British government's legal challenge to the COVID-19 public inquiry will likely be heard on June 30 or shortly afterwards, the counsel to the inquiry said on Tuesday. The government has refused to hand over internal WhatsApp messages it has described as "unambiguously irrelevant" to the inquiry, and has sought a judicial review at London's High Court against the demand. A judicial review is a legal challenge to the lawfulness of a decision by a public body, including a public inquiry. Johnson has offered to hand over his WhatsApp messages to the inquiry directly, rather than through the government, which has withheld some messages and has redacted others. Keith said that the inquiry had liaised with Johnson over the inspection of his unredacted messages.
