AdvertisementAs someone who's also been dating through whatever it is we've been doing romantically since 2020, I've noticed that my dating costs are going through the roof. How much should a date cost? For alcohol-free drinkers, the average price of a coffee is about $6 in New York City, which is comparable with other markets. Meanwhile, an informal 2022 report found that the average cost of a full body wax was $152, and Cosmopolitan reported in January that low-end forehead Botox would cost you $300. But even with the high up-front cost of dating, getting into a long-term relationship might pay off in the long run.

Mark Zuckerberg explains his hiring philosophy

But Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in an interview with Bloomberg's Emily Chang published Tuesday that the most important thing is "learning how to think critically and learning values when you're young." Zuckerberg said in the interview that his "hiring philosophy" follows this line of thought. It's not the first time the CEO has talked about considering a candidate's values when hiring. While Zuckerberg may have a strict standard for hiring candidates, the tech giant has slowed its hiring compared to the pandemic-era growth. Zuckerberg said earlier this year the company would continue to limit its head count and hiring plans would remain "relatively minimal."

Vice President Kamala Harris is already seeing a wave of big money donor support following President Joe Biden dropping out of the race, with the help of bundlers who have assisted her in past races, according to people familiar with the matter. Lasry helped raise money for the vice president when she ran against Biden in the 2020 Democratic primary. Hoffman has donated at least $10 million to supportive Biden political action committees so far this election, according to Federal Election Commission records. The campaign filed the new name of their campaign, "Harris for President," with the FEC. That would come with the added risk of donors potentially deciding not to donate to the new campaign, Massoglia said.

"Sadly, rather than originality, Sacks' letter awkwardly regurgitates pro-Trump groupthink." "The voters have experienced four years of President Trump and four years of President Biden," Sacks wrote in his letter. With respect to economic policy, foreign policy, border policy, and legal fairness, Trump performed better. Sacks' support for Trump — and Hoffman's vocal condemnation for it — comes as a growing faction of Silicon Valley elites have voiced their support for the former president post-conviction.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — An adorable, furry baby Hoffman's two-toed sloth has made its debut at zoo in Florida. Zookeepers at the Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society have been monitoring the baby sloth and its mother, Wilbur, since witnessing the birth early in the morning of Jan. 23. Zoo officials are waiting to identify the baby sloth's gender before deciding on a name. So we like to give it a few weeks, and really be able to know for certain what the gender is before we start with the naming process.”But the public is now welcome to visit the baby sloth. “We’re excited for guests to witness the development of this unique little baby," said Renee Bumpus, Chief Animal Conservation Officer.

HonestReporting's Gil Hoffman told Reuters his organisation had not claimed to know that there had been any prior knowledge by the news groups of the Hamas attack. "I was so relieved when all four of the media organisations said they didn't have prior knowledge," Hoffman said in an interview by telephone about the article. "I still very much think that the questions were legitimate and the answers were adequate from the media organisations themselves." Reacting to the HonestReporting article posted on X, the Israeli Foreign Ministry had described the use of the various images by the four news groups as "a serious violation of journalistic ethics." Despite HonestReporting's suggestions that the Palestinian photojournalists had secured their images in coordination with Hamas, he said he was "happy" their pictures had been published.

A single piece of advice from an investor helped Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky grow his company from a struggling startup to an industry giant worth roughly $70 billion. That's according to Chesky himself, who told attendees at a recent Stanford Graduate School of Business event that it was "the best piece of advice I ever got." The advice: "Focus on 100 people that love you, rather than getting a million people to kind of like you," Chesky said. It came courtesy of Paul Graham, the co-founder of tech startup accelerator Y Combinator, who advised Airbnb's co-founders — Chesky, Joe Gebbia and Nathan Blecharczyk — to focus on a tiny audience of potential customers as they built their company. For early Airbnb, that meant creating experiences for guests that stood out from staying at a hotel or crashing on a couch.
That's according to Chesky, who told the story at a recent Stanford Graduate School of Business event. Months before Airbnb's scheduled initial public offering, business dropped 80% in eight weeks during Covid-19 lockdowns, Chesky told Stanford students. Today, Airbnb's market cap is $75.49 billion, and Chesky's net worth is $9.3 billion, according to Forbes. "I never focused on trying to make a lot of money," Chesky said. May 2 (Reuters) - Inflection AI, the AI startup founded by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and former Deepmind (GOOGL.O) researcher Mustafa Suleyman, has released its first AI chatbot product, the company said on Tuesday. Similar to the viral chatbot ChatGPT, Inflection's AI chatbot, named Pi, uses generative AI technology to interact with users through conversations, in which people can ask questions and share interests. Inflection AI said it developed the technology in-house and its Pi chatbot is built on prioritizing human conversations with a high level of emotional intelligence. Pi uses user data, including conversational content, to train its AI systems, according to its terms of service. Chatbot powered by generative AI technology has become a crowded field since OpenAI's ChatGPT burst into the scene last November.
The findings in the ambitious Zoonomia Project identified parts of the genome functionally important in people and other mammals and showed how certain mutations can cause disease. The project revealed the genetics of uncommon mammalian traits like hibernation and showed how the sense of smell varies widely. The researchers said the findings on hibernation genetics could inform human therapeutics, critical care and long-distance space flight. The most primitive species was the venomous burrowing insect-eater Hispaniola solenodon, closely related to mammals alive during the dinosaur age. In terms of human differences from other mammals, the study pointed to regions associated with developmental and neurological genes.
Carroll has accused Trump of raping her in a Bergdorf Goodman changing room in the mid-1990s. Carroll is asking for Trump to retract his statements and for a jury to award her unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. Carroll says their encounter started off playful, with Trump asking Carroll to help him pick out a gift for a female friend. Eva Deitch for The Washington Post via Getty ImagesTrump's lawyers are likely to try and paint Carroll's lawsuit as a political witch hunt. Trump's lawyers asked to delay the trial a month so that they could probe Hoffman's involvement more, but that request was denied, though Kaplan allowed Trump's legal team to conduct another deposition with Carroll before the trial starts.
E. Jean Carroll's rape lawsuit against former President Donald Trump goes to trial next week. A federal judge sealed documents related to whether billionaire Reid Hoffman funded Carroll's suit. Alina Habba, an attorney representing Trump in the lawsuit, told Insider she would oppose the decision. On April 13, Habba asked Judge Kaplan (who is not related to Carroll's lawyer) again to delay the trial and reopen the discovery process in the case. Trump's attorneys haven't yet said whether the former president will attend the trial, and Judge Kaplan isn't forcing him to.
A judge denied Donald Trump's bid to delay E. Jean Carroll's rape trial because of his indictment. Judge Lewis A. Kaplan expressed concern the request was "another delay tactic" by the former president. US District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan said some of the so-called media frenzy had been caused by Trump himself. The judge allowed a brief reopening of discovery but denied Trump's request to delay the trial. Carroll "is now over 79 years of age and is entitled to her day in court just as both parties are entitled to a fair trial," Kaplan wrote.

At the same time, I also learned that no one uses your tools the way you envisioned. The truth is that everyone uses tools differently, so you need to build them in a permissive way. Now, they're using Tome, which is a use case I had never even thought about.
They said the involvement of Hoffman, a prominent Democratic donor, raised the question of whether Carroll sued Trump, a Republican, to advance a political agenda. They had called Trump's request irrelevant to the defamation claim, and said Trump waived the argument by earlier raising and then dropping a similar request. She also has a still-pending defamation lawsuit filed in November 2019 against Trump over his denial five months earlier that the rape took place. The case is Carroll v Trump, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. Reporting by Jonathan Stempel in New York Editing by Chris ReeseOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.
Attorneys for Donald Trump on Thursday accused writer E. Jean Carroll's lawyers of deliberately failing for months to disclose that LinkedIn co-founder and major Democratic donor Reid Hoffman helped fund her rape-defamation case against the former president. Trump's lawyers said that on Wednesday, Carroll's attorneys disclosed that Hoffman was the "primary backer" of that nonprofit group, American Future Republic. In her deposition, Carroll noted that her suit was a contingency case, meaning her attorneys only get paid if she wins the case. That funding came in September 2020, nearly a year after Carroll filed a complaint against Trump in state court, her lawyer noted. Carroll's team also challenged Trump's lawyers' requests for last-minute changes to the trial schedule.
