A destination in modern-day Massachusetts for any child within field-trip distance, Plymouth Rock is said to mark the spot where the Mayflower landed in 1620, carrying the pilgrims who would celebrate their first harvest with the indigenous Wampanoag.
I grew up hearing tales of my own ancestors who were among those early arrivals.
This summer, on a quest to know more about my origins, I traveled to the original Plymouth, an English port city from which the Mayflower, and so many ships like it, first embarked.
