The battery will be for the Cadillac Lyriq electric crossover vehicle that GM will begin building at its nearby Spring Hill assembly plant next year, the sources said. The timing of the Tennessee battery plant’s opening is unclear, but there will be a period when the battery is supplied for the Lyriq by another LG facility until the Tennessee plant opens and it will not come from Lordstown, one of the sources said. 1 U.S. automaker previously said it was exploring the feasibility of another U.S. battery cell plant with LG’s battery unit, LG Energy Solution, via its Ultium Cells LLC joint venture. Sources previously told Reuters that GM and LG Chem were in advanced talks with Tennessee officials, and that the plant there would be similar in scope to the $2.3 billion Lordstown plant. Sources previously said GM would need more battery plants beyond the Tennessee one to meet aggressive EV targets.

The report also makes several recommendations about how the Capitol Police can be better prepared in the future. NBC News reviewed the report on Wednesday ahead of a public hearing on Thursday before a House Administration subcommittee to discuss its findings. In addition, the report found that an FBI field office in Norfolk, Va., also warned the Capitol Police. The watchdog report also found that Capitol Police leaders told officers to avoid using the most aggressive possible responses at the time.

About a year later, Union Square sold another $30 million in Coinbase stock to Andreessen at $28.83 a share. "It became clear to me that this doesn't go mainstream if this is the way to buy bitcoin," Schuler said. GM shortens downtime at Tennessee plant as chip supply improves

Engines assembled as they make their way through the assembly line at the General Motors (GM) manufacturing plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, August 22, 2019. DETROIT – General Motors is restarting production sooner than expected at a crossover plant in Tennessee after supplies improved of the semiconductor chips needed to produce vehicles at the facility. The automaker's Spring Hill Assembly plant will return to regular production on Monday instead of April 26, a week earlier than initially announced Thursday by the company. A GM spokesman attributed the change in scheduling to near-term improvements in supplies allowing the automaker to avoid the production impact at the plant. The company also will not halt production next week of the Chevrolet Blazer at a plant in Mexico, which was announced last week due to the chip shortage.

Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican who has been a staunch critic of Big Tech, said on Monday he has introduced a bill that would ban all mergers and acquisitions by any company with a market value greater $100 billion, a category that includes the five biggest U.S. tech companies. Hawley’s bill tackles some of the same problems as an antitrust bill introduced by Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar in February, and contains some similar measures. Asked about Klobuchar’s bill, Hawley said, “I’m willing to work with her and anybody of any party and any background. I like a lot of what Senator Klobuchar has proposed.”He described his bill as “significantly tougher.”In the House of Representatives, Representative David Cicilline has said he plans to introduce a series of antitrust bills. Hawley said he was “very impressed” by her but added, “I have not made a final decision.”

Around 20 chief executives and other leaders in the auto, semiconductor and tech industries are meeting with White House officials on Monday in a virtual summit aimed at addressing a growing shortage of critical microchips. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and National Economic Council Director Brian Deese are also expected to join the video call. The auto industry has been particularly hard hit by the crisis, which has compounded vehicle shortages caused by last year’s pandemic factory shutdowns. During the first quarter alone, manufacturers around the world will lose about 1.4 million vehicles in production, the research firm forecast.
