COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s new constitutional projections for abortion access and other reproductive rights are supposed to take effect Dec. 7, a month after voters resoundingly passed them. It was the seventh straight victory in statewide votes for supporters of abortion access nationally since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned constitutional protections. At least three other Ohio abortion laws also have been on hold in the courts. “The (Ohio) Constitution specifically says reigning in out-of-control courts is the legislators' job," the anti-abortion group Faith2Action argues in a recently released video. “That means that many Ohio laws would probably be invalidated ... and others might be at risk to varying degrees,” he wrote.

LONDON/MADRID, July 26 (Reuters) - Spain's Santander (SAN.MC) is planning to hire around 150 bankers primarily in the United States as part of its plans to accelerate growth in its investment banking business, three sources with knowledge of the matter said. Santander's global corporate and investment banking chief, Jose M. Linares, discussed the plans in a town hall held in New York last week, the sources said. So far, the bank has hired more than 20 senior investment bankers chiefly in the United States, Reuters has reported. Net profit at the bank's global corporate and investment bank rose 16% year-on-year in the second quarter to 899 million euros. Santander employs currently around 8,000 staff at its global corporate and investment bank.

Thousands of members of the Bille and Ogale communities are suing Shell and its Nigerian subsidiary SPDC over oil spills. Shell strongly denies any liability and argues that parts of the cases were brought too late. It also says the majority of the spills were caused by illegal third-party interference, such as pipeline sabotage and oil theft. Shell says two further trials could then take place to determine allegations against its subsidiary and Shell's alleged liability as its parent company. Shell's proposal is "advanced as a device to shield (Shell) from scrutiny", Richard Hermer, a lawyer representing the claimants, said in court filings.
