TEJEDA, Spain, July 25 (Reuters) - A rapidly-spreading wildfire that broke out at the centre of the Spanish island of Gran Canaria on Tuesday forced the authorities to remove several hundred villagers from their homes, shut three roads and deploy helicopters to contain the blaze. However, Spanish airports operator AENA told Reuters, however, the Gran Canaria airport on the eastern coast was operating normally. Antonio Morales, head of the Island Council of Gran Canaria, told reporters about 100 firefighters and nine aircraft were working to put out the blaze that has so far burned through 200 hectares of forest but no buildings have been harmed. "They told me they were already there trying to put the fire out but two hours later it broke out of control," he said. A company that creates music to help relax dogs and cats was acquired by an LA-based group. Music For Pets runs RelaxMyDog and ReleaxMyCat and was bought by Create Music Group in June. Believe it or not, millions even tune in to a couple of YouTube channels to play music aimed at relaxing their dogs and cats. Ahmed's YouTube channels, RelaxMyDog and RelaxMyCat, have become hugely popular, with 1.5 million and 800,000 subscribers respectively. The company is now owned by Create Music Group after what Ahmed described as a few competing bids.

The Missouri Supreme Court ruled against the state attorney general’s position on an abortion ballot initiative, a decision that allows an effort to restore abortion rights there to move forward. The court ruled that the attorney general, Andrew Bailey, who opposes abortion, had improperly held up his approval of a ballot initiative that would ask voters whether they want to change the constitution to include a right to abortion. Mr. Bailey, a Republican, disputed the assessment of the state auditor, also a Republican, regarding how much such a change would cost. The delay prevented proponents of the initiative from beginning to collect signatures to try to place the question on the ballot for next year’s election. “While today is a tremendous victory for Missourians and the right to direct democracy, it is clear that some who hold office will not hesitate to trample the constitution if it advances their personal interests and political beliefs,” said Luz María Henríquez, the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri.

Astor Piazzolla occupies a unique position in modern musical composition. His work is as “popular” in its origins as jazz or blues, though it is frequently heard on classical-music stations—where his propulsive tango rhythms remain as infectious as Bach is baroque. A bridge between musical movements and a singular influence on the music of his native Argentina, Piazzolla dominates the latest installment of “Now Hear This,” the “Great Performances” series hosted by violinist Scott Yoo and his wife, flutist Alice Dade . (Future episodes this season will concern Robert Schumann , Isaac Albéniz and modern classicist Andy Akiho .) Whether their exploration of the music or dancing of tango will lead to a Piazzolla renaissance is uncertain, but there’s a wealth of invigorating music, including Piazzolla’s “History of Tango,” originally composed for flute and guitar and rendered with considerable energy and eloquence by Ms. Dade and Sebastián Henríquez .
