Country singer Sundance Head, who won Season 11 of 'The Voice,' was injured by a stray bullet at his ranch in Texas on Friday, his agent said. Head, 46, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Tyler, where he was recovering after being stabilized, agent Trey Newman said in a statement. Newman said the round that injured Head likely came from a nearby hunter's errant gunfire. Though Head's father, Roy Head, was a noted musician, the singer didn't start to make inroads in music until he was 33. "The Voice" and NBC News are entities of NBCUniversal Media, LLC.

Pennsylvania resident Naomi Whitehead, 114, was recently crowned the oldest living American. She earned the title as the oldest living person in America following the death of 115-year-old Elizabeth Francis last month. Whitehead grew up on a farm, and "picked cotton and tobacco," she told New Castle News last year. Though regular exercise wasn't ever important to Whitehead, her daily strenuous physical activity was "plowing in the field," she told YouTuber Jack Gordon in an interview. Whitehead's responses to Gordon's questions were typically just a few words, but she was still able to recite an extended bible verse at age 114.

Radiohead singer Thom Yorke left the stage during a concert Wednesday after a member of the audience shouted about Israel's assault on the Gaza Strip. Yorke was playing a show in Melbourne, Australia as part of a solo tour when, according to multiple videos captured by concertgoers, a man yelled: "Do you condemn the Israeli genocide of Gaza? On stage, Yorke replied: "Come up here and say that." Yorke, 56, is on a solo tour while Radiohead is on a lengthy hiatus. Radiohead has faced criticism in the past for playing gigs in Israel and not joining a boycott of the country by some artists.

People are losing the cognitive and social skills they need for a thriving personal and professional life, says organizational psychologist Richard Davis. "We are at risk of losing this essential capability that I call receptivity," says Davis, the managing director of Toronto-based leadership consulting firm Russell Reynolds Associates. "It's the ability to have good judgment, to have insight about people, and it's a major concern." "It's a cognitive ability that you need to actually exercise in order to not lose it," he says. People's ability to talk to and connect with each other is similarly at risk, he says.

Activist Commentary: Starboard is a very successful activist investor and has extensive experience helping companies focus on operational efficiency and margin improvement. With 90%+ gross margins and 35% operating margins, Autodesk is a leader in AEC software. Further, its operating margins are not much worse than those of its peers at first blush. However, Starboard correctly does not judge the company's operating margins on the mean of its peer set, but by the potential embodied in its gross margins and market position. He no longer serves on the board of Autodesk, but he could certainly be an informal advisor to Starboard – or a cautionary tale for Autodesk.

More recently, after nominating a majority director slate, Sachem Head settled for three board seats at US Foods. Taking board seats signifies both commitment and contribution, and this philosophy and style is really paying off for Sachem Head. After 2021, the revenue growth started slowing: It's 8.5% today, and it's estimated to be 5% to 10% in the coming years. As much as a growth market rewards hyper-growth stocks, it punishes those companies when revenue growth slows. On March 30, Sachem Head received a board seat for Andy J. Stafman, partner at Sachem Head, and agreed to withdraw its notice of shareholder proposals and nomination of candidates for election to the board at the 2024 annual meeting.

DALLAS (AP) — Houston point guard Jamal Shead exited the Cougars' Sweet 16 game against Duke with 6 1/2 minutes left in the first half after his right foot turned awkwardly on a move to the basket Friday night. The All-American walked slowly off the floor and went to the locker room. Shead was driving when he planted his foot and it turned, though he continued the play and missed a contested layup. After being tended to by an athletic trainer, Shead walked gingerly past the Houston bench and into the tunnel toward the locker room. The Blue Devils trailed top-seeded Houston 16-10 when Shead departed with 6:38 left.

"What we've achieved today is unbelievable," a teary-eyed Marnus Labuschagne, who combined with Head in a match-winning partnership of 192, said. "India have been the team of the tournament, but you knew if you play your best cricket, you have a chance." Head ran backwards from cover to take a tumbling catch to get rid of the India captain. Australia wicketkeeper Josh Inglis took five catches, which is a record in a World Cup final.

KOLKATA, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Australia bowled out South Africa for a below-par 212 despite David Miller's defiant 101 in the second semi-final of the 50-over World Cup at Eden Gardens on Thursday. Temba Bavuma's decision to bat under an overcast sky backfired and South Africa slumped to 24-4 inside 12 overs before light rain held up play. Australia were accurate with the ball and agile in the field, turning up the heat on their rivals. Miller and Heinrich Klaasen (47) arrested the slide after play resumed with a 95-run partnership but Travis Head's double strike put Australia back in charge. Miller smashed Pat Cummins for a six to bring up his hundred but fell in the same over trying to clear the rope again.

KOLKATA, Nov 14 (Reuters) - South Africa sense an opportunity to finally get rid of the choker's tag but the onerous task entails getting the better of the most successful team in the history of 50-overs World Cup, Australia, in Thursday's semi-final in Kolkata. "Hurt by a combination of bad luck and nerves in the business end of showpiece event, South Africa are pitted against a powerhouse who thrive in those big moments as Australia have demonstrated with five titles. South Africa, who have never progressed beyond the last four, are fretting over the availability of skipper Temba Bavuma, who is nursing a hamstring strain. They have looked more comfortable setting targets than chasing one though, and they will expect more penetration from their bowlers against a resurgent Australia. Regardless of how their group stage campaign ebbed and flowed, it came as no surprise when Australia hurled towards the knockout stages by stringing together seven wins in a row following that defeat by South Africa.

Needing 19 runs off Mitchell Starc's final over, New Zealand milked 13 runs off the first four legitimate deliveries to keep the heat on Australia. "That was awesome," Australia captain Pat Cummins said after their fourth win in six matches. Glenn Phillips broke the burgeoning stand by taking a return catch to dismiss Warner, but Head raced to a 59-ball century. New Zealand were uncharacteristically sloppy in the field, dropping five catches, with Head the beneficiary on two occasions. That left Ferguson with the job of hitting the final delivery for six, but he drilled it straight to the cover fielder instead.

Head fractured his left hand in South Africa last month but has linked up with the squad in New Delhi where the five-time champions will be chasing a third win in five matches. Marsh, who made 121 and 52 in his last two outings in the tournament, said Australia would take a call on Head's participation later on Tuesday. "He looked good, a bit of range-hitting last night," Marsh told reporters. Head had to retire hurt in his country’s 164-run defeat to South Africa at Centurion on Friday after being hit on the hand by Gerald Coetzee. “It's a confirmed fracture but as to the nature of the break and what sort of timeframe to heal, that will be assessed tomorrow,” said Australia coach Andrew McDonald. The 29-year-old Head, who has been a spearhead at the top of the innings for Australia in one dayers, would be sorely missed if he is to be ruled out of the World Cup, which starts in India on Oct. 5“He's going to go in for some more scans tomorrow... The 22-year-old Reilly, whose trailblazing two-wheeled stunts have earned him a huge online following, pulled every trick out of the bag to nail his second run to score 95.80. With several of the sport's biggest names still to complete their final two 60-second runs, Gateshead's Reilly then had an anxious wait to see whether or not the world title was his. A rain shower prolonged the agony as organisers dried the track, with just Australia's Olympic champion Logan Martin and 2022 world champion Rimu Nakamura still to ride their second attempts around the circuit. The 29-year-old Martin was already assured of a bronze and produced a sensational second ride but was unable to dislodge Reilly from the top of the leaderboard, settling for silver. Britain's reigning Olympic champion Charlotte Worthington was in action in the women's competition later.

Under YCC, the BOJ guides short-term rates at -0.1% and the 10-year Japan government bond yield around zero with an implicit cap of 0.5%. "We're in an economy where we're going to be hit more by supply shocks, and monetary policy will face more serious trade-offs," she said on Friday. Ranil Salgado, the IMF's Japan mission chief, sees scope for the BOJ to modify the long-term yield target this year, given heightening prospects of durable wage growth. As long as the short-term rates remain zero or slightly negative, the BOJ can keep monetary policy accommodative even if it tweaks the yield target, he said. "We are advising (the BOJ) to pretty much already be thinking about it," Salgado said on the idea of tweaking YCC.

The explosive warheads in suicide drones the used by Russia are designed to shred targets apart. The warheads have been fitted with small metal fragments, according to a new investigation. Russia has used these Iranian-made drones to wreak havoc on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The report said that the warhead's overall construction appeared to be well done, but added that the metal fragments appeared to be a "later addition" and were poorly fitted. Iran has provided Russia with hundreds of drones, including many suicide drones, a kind of loitering munition, and the Biden administration has warned that the two are forming a "full-fledged defense partnership."
