Twitch on Friday will terminate all members of its Safety Advisory Council, according to sources familiar with the situation and documents viewed by CNBC. The council is a resource of nine industry experts, streamers and moderators who consulted on trust and safety issues related to children on Twitch, nudity, banned users and more. The Amazon -owned game-streaming company formed its Safety Advisory Council in May 2020 to "enhance Twitch's approach to issues of trust and safety" on the platform and guide decisions, according to a company webpage. "Looking ahead, the Safety Advisory Council will primarily be made up of individuals who serve as Twitch Ambassadors," the email, viewed by CNBC, stated. Payment depended on the length of the contract, but council members were paid between $10,000 and $20,000 per 12-month period, according to a source familiar with the contracts.

Still, when you're saving for something that's decades away, such as retirement, it's easy to feel like you're not doing enough or that you're falling behind without some context. Even if you're not doing as well as you'd like, you may be doing better than most. "Automating savings ensures consistency and discipline, making it easier to stick to your retirement savings goals." It's "essentially free money that can significantly boost your retirement savings," says Basso. "Don't treat your retirement savings like Vegas and go all in on something.

Former OpenAI board member Helen Toner, who helped oust CEO Sam Altman in November, broke her silence this week when she spoke on a podcast about events inside the company leading up to Altman's firing. Toner also said Altman did not tell the board he owned the OpenAI startup fund. Within a week, Altman was back and board members Toner and Tasha McCauley, who had voted to oust Altman, were out. In March, OpenAI announced its new board, which includes Altman, and the conclusion of an internal investigation by law firm WilmerHale into the events leading up to Altman's ouster. "The review concluded there was a significant breakdown of trust between the prior board and Sam and Greg," OpenAI board chair Bret Taylor said at the time, referring to president and co-founder Greg Brockman.

OpenAI on Tuesday said it created a Safety and Security Committee led by senior executives, after disbanding its previous oversight board in mid-May. The formation of a new oversight team comes after OpenAI dissolved a previous team that was focused on the long-term risks of AI. AI safety has been at the forefront of a larger debate, as the huge models that underpin applications like ChatGPT get more advanced. Bret Taylor, Adam D'Angelo, Nicole Seligman, who are all on OpenAI's board of directors, now sit on the new safety committee alongside Altman. Leike this month wrote that OpenAI's "safety culture and processes have taken a backseat to shiny products."

He often wears Swift's merchandise or friendship bracelets from her ongoing Eras tour on team calls. He's seen updates on Swift's music and personal life as something employees from across generations jump in to discuss on a team messaging forum. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted photos of his face bejeweled and wrists covered in friendship bracelets, which have become a hallmark accessory of Swift's tour. Despite that, she said, Swift's music has been a "universal language" that's helped her connect with everyone from the fathers of fans to women who see themselves in the singer.

But on social media, users have shared a wide range of screenshots showing the AI tool sharing controversial responses. Here are some examples of what went wrong with AI Overviews, according to screenshots shared by users. When asked how many Muslim presidents the U.S. has had, AI Overviews responded, "The United States has had one Muslim president, Barack Hussein Obama." Attribution can also be a problem for AI Overviews, especially when it comes to attributing inaccurate information to medical professionals or scientists. OpenAI on Thursday backtracked on a controversial decision to, in effect, make former employees choose between signing a non-disparagement agreement that would never expire, or keeping their vested equity in the company. The internal memo, which was viewed by CNBC, was sent to former employees and shared with current ones. The memo said OpenAI will also not enforce any other non-disparagement or non-solicitation contract items that the employee may have signed. "As we shared with employees, we are making important updates to our departure process," an OpenAI spokesperson told CNBC in a statement. Bloomberg first reported on the release from the non-disparagement provision.

Appen, the embattled artificial intelligence firm that once helped train AI models for tech giants including Microsoft , Nvidia and Google , has lost its executives in charge of revenue and marketing. The departures follow Alphabet 's announcement in January that it was cutting all contractual ties with Appen, which once helped train Google's chatbot and other AI products. Two weeks after that decision, Appen CEO Armughan Ahmad left after just 12 months on the job. After a "strategic review process," Alphabet notified Appen in January of the termination, which went into effect March 19, according to a filing from Appen. Companies are spending far more on processors from Nvidia and less on external AI training from companies like Appen.

on Wednesday announced a "multi-year global partnership" that will allow OpenAI to access current and archived articles from News Corp.'s outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, MarketWatch, Barron's, The New York Post and more. As part of the deal, OpenAI will be able to display content from News Corp.-owned outlets within its ChatGPT chatbot, in response to user questions. The news follows Reddit's announcement on Thursday that it will partner with OpenAI, allowing the ChatGPT maker to train its AI models on Reddit content. As part of that deal, OpenAI will gain access to Reddit's Data application programming interface, or API, "which provides real-time, structured, and unique content from Reddit," according to a release. Google announced a similar partnership with Reddit in February, allowing the company to train its AI models, such as Gemini, on Reddit content via access to the platform's API.

I got engaged at 23 and married my college sweetheart in a big church wedding. I didn't like how that felt, seeing last names that didn't match. To this day, I still sometimes get cards in the mail from family members addressed to Danielle James or even Danielle Hayden James, his last name tacked on right after my own. That doesn't make them any less "in love" or any less of a family unit. And once, when we rented a car, an employee didn't believe we were married and, therefore, both were permitted to drive, despite our wedding rings and my insistence.

OpenAI announced it would pull one of the ChatGPT voices named "Sky" after it created controversy for its resemblance to the voice of actress Scarlett Johansson in "Her," a movie about artificial intelligence. "We've heard questions about how we chose the voices in ChatGPT, especially Sky," the Microsoft -backed company posted on X. The news comes one week after OpenAI debuted a range of audio voices for ChatGPT, its viral chatbot, a new AI model called GPT-4o, and a desktop version of ChatGPT. Users watching the live demonstration of ChatGPT's audio capabilities immediately began to post on social media that the "Sky" voice sounded like Johansson in the movie. "Sky's voice is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson but belongs to a different professional actress using her own natural speaking voice," the company wrote.

The news comes days after both team leaders, OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever and Jan Leike, announced their departures from the Microsoft-backed startup. OpenAI's Superalignment team, announced last year, has focused on "scientific and technical breakthroughs to steer and control AI systems much smarter than us." "I joined because I thought OpenAI would be the best place in the world to do this research," Leike wrote on X. Leike wrote that he believes much more of the company's bandwidth should be focused on security, monitoring, preparedness, safety and societal impact. Dylan Field, co-founder and CEO of Figma, speaks at the startup's Config conference in San Francisco on May 10, 2022. Figma, a cloud-based design tool company, said Thursday it will allow investors, including current and former employees, to sell their shares in a tender offer that values the company at $12.5 billion. That's up 25% from the valuation at which the company fundraised in 2021, but below the $20 billion acquisition offer Adobe made in 2022. Adobe and Figma called off the planned acquisition in December following regulatory scrutiny. In December, a regulatory filing said Adobe would pay Figma a $1 billion breakup fee.

OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever said Tuesday that he's leaving the Microsoft -backed startup. The departure comes months after OpenAI went through a leadership crisis involving co-founder and CEO Sam Altman. In November, OpenAI's board said in a statement that Altman had not been "consistently candid in his communications with the board." OpenAI has announced new board members, including former Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor and former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers. In 2015, Altman and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, another OpenAI co-founder, wanted Sutskever, then a research scientist at Google , to become the budding startup's top scientist, according to the lawsuit Musk filed against OpenAI in March.

A federal judge in California dismissed a lawsuit filed by Elon Musk's X against Israel's Bright Data, in a case that involved the scraping of public online data and its appropriate uses. X, formerly Twitter, sued Bright Data, alleging the company "scrapes data from X" and sells it "using elaborate technical measures to evade X Corp.'s anti-scraping technology." He added that X was not "looking to protect X users' privacy," and was "happy to allow the extraction and copying of X users' content so long as it gets paid." Bright Data says it only scrapes publicly available data that's visible to anyone without a login. At the time of the suit's filing, X made the information Bright Data scraped available to anyone.
