Attorney John Eastman on Monday was ordered to pay a $100,000 bond in the Georgia criminal case where he is accused of conspiring to overturn former President Donald Trump's loss in the state's 2020 election, a court filing shows. He is also accused of one count of criminal solicitation and one count of filing false documents. The bond for the racketeering charge was set at $20,000, while Eastman's remaining charges each carry a $10,000 bond, according to the court filing in Fulton County Superior Court. A consent bond order can be crafted in advance of a defendant's surrender so that they are not held in jail while the conditions of their release are worked out. David Wolfe, a lawyer for Eastman who signed the consent bond order, in a phone call would not explicitly tell CNBC when his client will surrender in Georgia.

I'll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be ARRESTED by a Radical Left District Attorney, Fani Willis," Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who launched the investigation into Trump and his allies, has given the defendants until noon Friday to voluntarily surrender. Trump earlier Monday agreed to a $200,000 bond in the Georgia criminal case charging him with trying to illegally overturn the 2020 presidential election results in the state. Eastman — who's referenced but not charged as a co-conspirator in special counsel Jack Smith's federal criminal case against Trump for allegedly trying to subvert the 2020 election results — features prominently and repeatedly in the DA's indictment. Ray Smith, another Trump lawyer who was allegedly involved in the electors scheme, agreed to a $50,000 bond order, court filings show.

They were the latest members of the former president’s inner circle to find out that associating with Trump could put them on cracking legal ice. There is increasing speculation over why Meadows was charged in Georgia but not in special counsel Jack Smith’s federal investigation into Trump’s election stealing efforts. Legal experts wonder whether he could be cooperating with that probe in a sign of peril for the former president. Trump’s inner circles have long faced legal problemsTrump’s co-defendants in the Georgia case are not the first to find out that the ex-president’s intolerance for the rules and conventions that normally constrain presidencies can lead them into treacherous waters. Trump once vowed to bring only “the best people” to Washington, but his acolytes often find themselves dragged into his legal storms.

Investigators from the Department of Justice reviewed numerous email exchanges between Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., Trump lawyer John Eastman and two DOJ officials who were pushing the then-president's plan to overturn the 2020 election results, newly unsealed court filings show. Earlier this year, federal investigators seized phones belonging to Perry and Eastman and also searched Clark's home. The Justice Department had asked Howell to unseal a pair of decisions from June and September, but some parts are still redacted. “He wanted Mr. Clark — Mr. Jeff Clark to take over the Department of Justice,” Hutchinson said. It's unclear why the Justice Department asked the judge to unseal the rulings now.
