In a note on Aug. 7, Goldman's analysts revealed a number of top picks, including three buy-rated Japanese stocks with over 40% upside potential over the next 12 months. Year-to-date, Asics shares are up 99.5%. Goldman has a target price of 3,100 Japanese Yen ($21.07) on the stock, giving it around 50% upside potential at the time of the note. CNN —The 2024 Tony Awards are underway at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. Heading into the ceremony, Alicia Keys’ ambitious musical “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Stereophonic,” a play set in the ’70s about fictional band, led with 13 nominations each. Cast members from productions including “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club,” “The Who’s Tommy,” “Water for Elephants” and the Hillary Clinton-produced “Suffs,” among others, are slated to perform. The Tony Awards are airing on CBS at 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PDT and will stream on Paramount+ in the US. “After China's ban on Japanese seafood, we are seeing more customers buying not only Fukushima fish but also Japanese seafood in general to support the industry." Despite the wastewater discharges, auction prices at Fukushima fish markets have remained stable — or even occasionally higher than normal. While individual consumers favor ordering fish by mail and shopping at seafood markets, prefectural government cafeterias have started serving Fukushima seafood for lunch. In Kyoto, a group of world-renowned Japanese “Kaiseki” cuisine chefs, will develop menus that primarily use Fukushima fish starting early next year. “I wish I could sell more local fish,” Haga said.

Tokyo, Japan CNN —Evacuation warnings have been issued to more than 237,000 people across 11 prefectures in Japan as Typhoon Lan hit the west of the country on Tuesday, according to Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency. At least 26 people have been injured in five prefectures across western Japan, according to Japan’s public broadcaster NHK, citing police and fire officials. In two towns in Tottori and Okayama prefectures, rainfall over a few hours on Tuesday exceeded the average for the entire month of August. A swollen river as Typhoon Lan makes landfall in Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture on Tuesday. Typhoon Lan follows Typhoon Khanun, which lashed southwestern Japan with wind and rain earlier this month.
