Former President Donald Trump stood by his idea to end income taxes and substitute them with tariffs in a Friday interview with Joe Rogan, the host of one of the most widely listened to podcasts in the world. "Did you just float out the idea of getting rid of income taxes and replacing it with tariffs?" He has also said he would consider income tax exemptions for firefighters, police officers, military personnel and veterans. But tax experts and economic analysts do not think Trump's tariffs would be an adequate counterweight to balance the trillions lost from eliminating income taxes. In effect, these tariffs could replace income tax with a kind of new sales tax, shifting the tax burden more heavily onto low-income individuals.

As part of its continuing evolution, J.Crew released a collaboration with Maryam Nassir Zadeh, a New York City-based brand, in July. Instead, they were scattered throughout the floor with pieces from other J.Crew lines. The skirt that fit my waist felt tight on my hips, while the skirt that fit my hips was too big at the waist. Overall, I was most impressed by the everyday items from J.Crew and Maryam Nassir Zadeh's collection, particularly the cotton pieces. They were so soft, lightweight, and versatile that I instantly wanted to make them staples of my summer wardrobe.

Amateur buildEngineer Ashok Aliseril spent 18 months building a four-seater plane during the pandemic, helped by his daughter. Aliseril briefly considered buying an older aircraft, and looked at some that had been built in the 1960s and 1970s. After researching self-assembly aircraft kits, he came across a four-seater plane manufactured by South African company Sling Aircraft that ticked all the right boxes. “I would say generally, anyone can get involved in these sorts of builds.”Lockdown projectHe built a shed in his garden to complete the build. Although he’d initially planned to hire a workshop to construct the aircraft, Aliseril feels that creating a workspace at his home was the better choice.

There are nights when Michael Shields lies awake next to his wife and thinks about Ping-Pong balls. He muses on their arcs and speeds, the ways they bounce off a wooden plank or roll down a Hot Wheels track. In the mornings he often turns his visions into reality, and millions tune in to watch. If, as in Mr. Shields’s case, the trick shots garner enough views on social media, talent agents begin to call, and money and corporate partnerships help to keep new content coming. Alaska Airlines said Thursday that the weekslong grounding of the Boeing 737 Max 9 will cost the carrier $150 million. Both Alaska and United Airlines , the two U.S. carriers that have the Max 9s in their fleets, said they found loose bolts on several Max 9 planes during preliminary inspections shortly after the accident. Alaska on Thursday forecast full-year adjusted earnings per share of between $3 and $5, including the hit from the Max grounding. "I'm here today in the spirit of transparency ... [and to] answer all their questions, because they have a lot of them," Calhoun told reporters. ON BOARD THE USS BATAAN (AP) — When attacks with missiles and drones surged in the Red Sea late last year, crewmembers of the USS Bataan worked round the clock to make sure they were shot down before reaching passing merchant vessels. Weeks later, they are still perfecting that operation in training and simulations, along with a dozen other scenarios, despite moving north to the Mediterranean where commercial marine traffic is at little risk. The U.S. Navy is reshuffling its warship deployment in the Middle East to maintain dominance in the region – now eyeing the longer haul as concerns mount that Israel’s war on Hamas in Gaza could set off a regional conflict. The Bataan was sailing toward the eastern Mediterranean Friday after taking part in live-fire exercises with NATO-member Greece on the country’s mainland. “I would say, the difference (after coming to Greece) is that the food is a little bit better.”

But on Tuesday, Fox stepped out in London in a look that can’t be overlooked: a literal plastic dry-cleaning bag, held up by a loop around her neck like a halter dress. Fox paired the garment bag with what appears to be elastic-waist shorts, J.Lo-worthy stiletto knee-high boots and a structured purse, all in cream. Julia Fox does dry-cleancore.
