The accord was brokered by the United Nations and Turkey to provide safe passage to exports from Ukrainian ports. Fidan said some ships had managed to transport Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea, even without the accord in place.

CNN —The son of Somalia’s president was convicted in an Istanbul courtroom but spared jail time over a collision that killed a motorcycle courier in the city, in a case that has drawn anger and demands for justice across Turkey. Iyaz Cimen, the lawyer representing Gocer’s family, told CNN that his clients had agreed to drop their formal complaint against Mohamud. Cimen, the lawyer representing Gocer’s family, told CNN in December that Mohamud had left the country on December 2, before the warrant was issued. President Mohamud told the AP he was sorry for Gocer’s family for his loss, and said that he has advised his son to go back to Turkey for court proceedings. Last month, he told CNN Turk that his client was not speeding or under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision.

CNN —Israeli soccer star Sagiv Jehezkel, who plays for Turkish team Antalyaspor, was detained on Monday for “instigating the public to hatred and hostility,” according to Turkish state broadcaster TRT Haber. Jehezkel, who is being held by police in Antalya, was suspended by Antalyaspor over the weekend after showing his bandaged wrist which had a message supporting Israeli hostages on Sunday. The bandage said “100 days, 7/10” in reference to the Israeli hostages who had been held for 100 days in Gaza on Sunday following the deadly attack by Hamas in Israel on October 7. The Turkish justice minister announced on X, formerly Twitter, that the Antalya chief prosecutor’s office launched an investigation against the 28-year-old player Jehezkel. The prosecutor’s office will ultimately decide if he is formally arrested or if he will be released.

The average sales price fell 5% to $1.95 million and the median sales price fell 10% to $1.075 million, according to the report. The average discount from the initial list price to sales price in the first quarter price was 7%, up from 5% in the fourth quarter, according to Serhant. Overall, cash deals rose to a record 57% of all sales in the quarter, Miller said. "It's not by any stretch a seller's market, but it's getting busier each month."

Overnight, the death toll from the earthquakes, the most powerful of which struck at the dead of night on Feb. 6, rose to 44,128 in Turkey. That took the overall number of deaths in Turkey and neighbouring Syria to more than 50,000. A video of what appears to be a drone strike targeting troops on the ground has been circulating online with a caption that falsely claims it was taken during the Russia-Ukraine war. Other iterations of the video can be found on Instagram (here ) and Facebook (here ). However, a reverse image search reveals that the video was shared online as far back as 2020, long before Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. It was published to YouTube on Oct. 13, 2020, with a description that reads: “Azerbaijani drone strike on Armenian soldiers” (here ). The drone strike video is not related to the Russia-Ukraine war and dates to at least 2020, when it was shared in relation to a conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

More than 4,000 fatalities have been reported in the rebel-held northwest, but rescuers say nobody has been found alive there since Feb. 9. Deliveries from Turkey were severed completely in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, when a route used by the United Nations was temporarily blocked.
