Former President Donald Trump accused the Justice Department of "downplaying" an alleged assassination plot against him earlier this month and suggested state officials in Florida should take over the investigation and prosecution. "The Kamala Harris/Joe Biden Department of Justice and FBI are mishandling and downplaying the second assassination attempt on my life since July. Trump has attacked the Justice Department for years, accusing the agency of targeting him after it brought charges against him in two separate cases. Florida charges would be much more serious than the ones the FBI has announced," he wrote. DeSantis issued an executive order last week ordering a state investigation into the incident.

TikTok has banned all political advertising on the app since 2019, but that hasn’t stopped advertisers from running what appear to be paid political messages on the platform. According to TikTok, the company does “not allow ads featuring political content across any of our monetization features, including paid ads, creators being paid to make branded political content, and other promotional tools on the platform.”TikTok stands apart among its big tech peers in banning political ads — Facebook, Instagram, X and Google all allow political advertisements. The continued presence of political ads on TikTok illustrates the difficulties in patrolling its own platform just weeks ahead of the 2024 presidential election and amid the court proceedings over its potential ban. The findings come as recent research shows that political ads on social media platforms are often filled with misinformation. There were no obvious signs of misinformation among the TikTok videos NBC reviewed.

He positioned himself outside the fence at the sixth hole of the course on Sept. 15, before a Secret Service agent scouting one hole ahead of the former president’s group spotted him and the barrel of his gun. At the time he was seen, Mr. Routh had aligned himself directly to the sixth hole, with the intention of shooting Mr. Trump from a relatively short distance with a semiautomatic rifle, prosecutors said. The rifle, equipped with a scope and left at the scene, had a bullet in the chamber and a total of 11 rounds. “I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster,” Mr. Routh wrote in a note placed inside a box, left at a friend’s house, found by investigators after he was arrested. “It is up to you to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job.”

Inselmann collected literature, data and examples of more than 4,700 Bronze Age arrowheads from Central Europe and mapped out where they came from to compare them with the Tollense Valley arrowheads. Otherwise, they would expect to find evidence of arrowheads within ceremonial burials in the region that were practiced during the Bronze Age. “This new information has considerably changed the image of the Bronze Age, which was not as peaceful as believed before,” Terberger said. An initial DNA test on remains believed to be those of Joseph Couch, the suspect in the Interstate 75 shootings, was inconclusive, but an autopsy confirmed the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, state officials said. The soft tissue DNA test was “inconclusive due to extreme decomposition of the body,” and a further DNA test with material extracted from bone will be completed, the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet said in a news release. The remains were found in deep brush by a highway exit in Laurel County, which is where London is and where the shootings occurred, state officials said. A couple livestreaming the search for Couch's body helped in the effort and the discovery, state police said. The DNA test from bone is expected to begin Friday and take 24 to 48 hours, the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet said.

A Georgia mother died in 2022 from a treatable infection due to delays to her medical care stemming from the state’s restrictive abortion law, nonprofit news outlet ProPublica reported. According to ProPublica, Miller’s family told a coroner she did not seek care because of laws around pregnancy and abortion. The family shared their story and engaged with the vice president in an emotional moment. The Harris campaign is hoping the political saliency of reproductive rights can help galvanize voters ahead of Election Day. Last week, the Harris campaign launched an abortion-focused ad, capitalizing on what officials said was a pivotal exchange between Harris and Trump.
