With a heavy dose of Bay Area slang, E-40 created a lane for his unique hip-hop vernacular that has made him one of the genre’s most revered artists. In a recent interview, E-40 spoke with The Associated Press about being an underrated legend, his unorthodox rap style and the new cookbook called “Snoop Dogg Presents: Goon With The Spoon, ” which released earlier this week. AP: Where does your unorthodox rap style and wisdom come from? E-40: I’m the oldest of four. E-40: Snoop, that’s my guy.

A Chill in the Air and Chili in Your Pot

Chili season gets underway in my house after the first day I am well and truly chilled on my daily bike ride north along the harbor, wind whistling out of the west as if to knock me over. That sure wasn’t yesterday, not in New York! But as Mr. Martin wrote, “Winter is coming.” Sometimes I like a classic chili con carne to warm me up afterward, and always this firehouse chili gumbo. Lately, though, I’ve been thrilling to Pierre Franey’s turkey chili (above), which I make with ground turkey and, freestyling, a bunch of cubed turkey thighs that I think add a welcome textural contrast to the stew. (Chili is endlessly adaptable to your tastes and ingredients, as detailed in my guide to making the dish.)

Zimbabwean court upholds opposition campaign launch ban

BINDURA, Zimbabwe, July 9 (Reuters) - A Zimbabwean court on Sunday upheld a ban on the planned campaign launch by main opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), the third of its rallies to be banned as its leader Nelson Chamisa face hurdles on his campaign trail. CCC was scheduled to hold its campaign launch on Sunday in Bindura, about 100 km (62 miles) north of the capital Harare, but police banned the gathering citing problems with the venue. Bindura Magistrate Mary Musika then upheld the ban, saying CCC had failed to notify the police on time. A handful of opposition supporters chanted party slogans as they protested outside the court, adding they were not free to support their party. "It is disheartening because ZANU PF is allowed to campaign freely but they are using the law to block our rallies.

I’ve been blessed to travel the world chasing flavors, wandering through markets, dining at fancy restaurants and eating at mom-and-pop food trucks. It makes me think of a woman who inspires me like no other: the great Creole chef Leah Chase. “In my dining room, we changed the course of America over a bowl of gumbo and some fried chicken,” she once said. I turned to her legacy for inspiration, motivated by how her restaurant helped shape the civil rights movement and sustained the community. To me, this is the spirit of true American food, which is more democratic than ever.

A vice president makes countless public appearances that will be mostly ignored unless something humiliating happens — something that serves to make him or her look like the hapless lightweight who symbolizes an entire administration’s ineptitude. Bush’s young vice president, Dan Quayle, is remembered for misspelling “potato” on camera. Biden’s time in the office actually helped burnish a goofy charm; he was seen not just as folksy or avuncular but, in some corners, paradoxically cool. This is the woman seen, in some clips, singing “Wheels on the Bus” at a campaign vehicle and then cackling with laughter, or gushing about Venn diagrams. One Twitter user racked up likes by positing that her meandering sentences resemble the dense philosophy of Friedrich Hegel.

It was one the president deployed once again behind closed doors at the White House. With Memorial Day on the horizon, senior White House officials said protecting veterans’ benefits was a top priority. They also knew it was a sensitive issue for Republicans’ politically, especially as House Republicans parried White House allegations about cuts to veterans’ services. White House officials would engage in conversations where their Republican counterparts would outline a potential resolution on issues. For months, White House officials hoped – and to some degree based on past battles, expected – Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell would engage in finding a resolution.

“She’s well respected by both sides,” McCarthy said of the former longtime House Appropriations Committee staffer, according to White House officials. “Asking me about the communication (with the White House) implies there was communication,” one House Democrat said. For the White House negotiators, that meant late nights and early mornings. The White House negotiators left Capitol Hill abruptly and for hours, it was unclear when the conversations would resume. Quietly, White House negotiators had never actually stopped talking to their Republican counterparts.

Bat viruses have been the source of multiple health crises besides those related to coronaviruses, including recent outbreaks of Ebola, Nipah, and Marburg. Partners in risk The total area at high risk for bat viruses to infect humans more than doubled in size in Laos between 2002 and 2020. The animals, known to be susceptible to bat viruses, included raccoon dogs, bamboo rats and porcupines. As China boomed in recent decades, global demand for rubber also skyrocketed, leading to further development and deforestation here. Already, scientists have found local bats bearing viruses closely related to those responsible for the 2003 SARS and COVID-19 pandemics.
Keep an eye on banks, economic data, Jim Cramer says

Frothy markets and banking tumult cast a pallor over the broader markets, but investors should keep an eye on economic data and the Federal Reserve's continued rate hikes, CNBC's Jim Cramer said on Thursday. Sharp declines in Silvergate Bank and SVB Financial shares came as the broader banking sector underwent a major collapse, Cramer said. Cramer pinned the collapse on a victory from the Fed and a general flight from three different spaces: commercial real estate, venture slowdown and crypto. A flurry of downgrades prompted concern about a couple of big commercial real estate names, Cramer said, including SL Green and Vornado Realty Trust . Cooling and weaker numbers for those reports, respectively, could be a boon for financials and for tech stocks, Cramer said.
As part of the honor, Marie, whose pronouns are they/she, was invited to attend Out Magazine’s gala in New York. Although the majority of American women wear sizes 14 or above, Marie said, many stores stock only sizes 12 and under. “Apparently the dress that I love from the Emmys this year was in shambles because everyone kept stepping on Lizzo’s train,” Marie said. “So she [the manager] said, ‘But we found one that’s really similar.’"Marie said Lizzo's manager offered them the magenta tulle gown that was custom-made for Lizzo’s 2019 American Music Awards performance. “You can send me a paper bag and say Lizzo wore this at a photo shoot and I would have worn it on the red carpet at that point,” Marie said.

He highlights 24 different distinctive dialects. These aren't just accents, but genuinely distinct ways of speaking beyond just the way words sound. Some original Hudson Valley words are stoop (small porch) and teeter-totter. The name comes either from the Gola tribe in Liberia or the Ngola tribe in Angola.
