That helped Russia overtake Saudi Arabia as China’s largest crude oil supplier for the year. The Middle East country shipped 85.96 million metric tons of crude oil to China in 2023, down 2% from 2022. Russia now accounts for 19% of China’s oil imports, while Saudi Arabia makes up 15%. Nonetheless, the $45 billion Apple (AAPL.O) supplier’s continuing push to move production outside of China leaves it firmly on frontlines of rising cross-strait tensions. Foxconn grew into the biggest employer in China, with more than 1 million workers at its peak and a top contract manufacturer for global brands. Foxconn is out of the election spotlight but it still has to grapple with an awkward status quo. DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — Authorities in Bangladesh announced a new salary structure on Tuesday for protesting garment factory workers with a 56% increase in the monthly minimum wage to $113 from the previous $75, a decision rejected by some workers' groups as too small. The decision came after weeks of violent protests by workers demanding a $208 monthly minimum wage. The protests began after the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association offered to increase the monthly minimum wage by 25% to $90.
