WASHINGTON — The House of Representatives is set to vote Monday evening on whether to override President Donald Trump’s veto of the annual defense policy bill, setting up what could be a dramatic rebuke by Republicans of their party’s leader. The $740 billion authorization measure passed both chambers of Congress earlier this month by large enough margins to override the veto. There is some flex to lose some people that voted for it that don't vote to override the veto. Hopefully, we can still get it overridden.”If the vote succeeds in both chambers, it would be the first time Congress has overridden a veto by Trump. If the override passes the House on Monday night, the Senate is expected to start the override process Tuesday, although it could take several days for a final vote.

Joe Biden's team is worried that Donald Trump might force him to purge the outgoing president's political appointees who don't voluntarily resign by Inauguration Day. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. government civil servants could face mass firings under an executive order before President Donald Trump leaves office and Democratic lawmakers, watchdog groups and unions are mobilizing to block the move. U.S. President Donald Trump arrives to speak to reporters in the Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House in Washington, U.S., November 24, 2020. Trump’s order allows agencies to reclassify workers involved in policy-making to a new “Schedule F” category without the job protections they have now. The White House order says Trump is pushing to streamline the federal bureaucracy, increase accountability and make it easier to clear out “poor performers.” The federal government employs about 2 million people in total. Creating the new category of federal workers would expose the civil service to “undue political influence and intimidation,” the committee chairs warned in their letter.

In a letter sent Thursday, Democrats ask Emily Murphy, head of the General Services Administration, to personally explain why she has not joined every major news network in calling the election. Democratic leaders are demanding to know why President-elect Joe Biden has not been recognized as the next US head of state by the Trump administration, despite the race have already been called by all major news networks. "President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris have clearly satisfied any good faith reading of this standard," the Democratic lawmakers wrote. Back then, former Vice President Al Gore and former President George W. Bush were locked in an intense legal battle in Florida, with the victor set to move into the White House. General Services Administration Administrator Emily Murphy has refused to designate an "apparent" winner of the 2020 election.

Social media users have been sharing a letter online that says Joe Biden is not President-elect and that this is the official stance of the U.S. Congress. The letter, however, while authentic, was sent by one subcommittee member and does not represent the official view of the entire Congress or House of Representatives. In the letter, Hice refers to another letter sent to Murphy by Democratic House members on Nov. 9, 2020. Similarly, this letter reflects the views of some Democratic Representatives but not Congress’ official stance. The letter shown is not an official announcement by Congress that there is no President-elect.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President-elect Joe Biden’s campaign on Sunday urged the Trump political appointee who heads the U.S. General Services Administration to approve an official transition of power despite President Donald Trump’s refusal to concede. U.S. Representative Gerry Connolly, who heads the House Subcommittee on Government Operations, said Murphy should start the process without delay. “The Administrator plays a critical role in the peaceful transfer of power and ensuring vital government services are not disrupted. Trump has little chance of flipping tens of thousands of votes through recounts, Antholis said. Biden’s campaign has raised some funds for that purpose, and had a jumpstart on the transition process given the former vice president’s long experience in government, she said.
