Yet, with each game for the Seleção teenage prodigy Endrick enhances his stock, justifying his billing as the next Brazilian soccer great. He headed home a Vinícius Jr. cross to put Brazil back in front after Guillermo Martínez Ayala had levelled for Mexico in the 92nd minute. Brazil had gone 2-0 up through Andreas Pereira and Gabriel Martinelli, but let the advantage slip as Mexico scored twice late on. “I’m very grateful to God for another opportunity to score for the national team,” Endrick said after the match, per Reuters. Brazil next plays the US in a friendly on Wednesday, before its Copa America campaign starts against Costa Rica on June 24.

CNN —In what was one of the most one-sided games in English Premier League history, a rampant Arsenal thrashed Sheffield United 6-0 on Monday. Many Sheffield United fans left before the end of the match at Bramall Lane. The club has struggled since being promoted to the English Premier League this season and currently sits bottom of the league on goal difference. The team has now conceded 12 goals in its last three league games, without managing to find the net once itself. Arsenal also made history on Monday, becoming the first side in English league soccer history to win three successive away games by five goals or more, according to Opta.

While Arsenal dominated possession and passing, the Gunners were largely toothless throughout the contest, mustering zero shots on target and just seven total shots all game. You can’t overlook anyone, ever, in the Champions League because it is the Champions League, special things happen. It’s a real kick in the teeth because we’ve conceded late, but we know what to do. If we want to get into the next round, we know how we’ve got to win and what we’ve got to do to go about that. CNN —Arsenal kept its title hopes alive with a vital 3-1 win against Liverpool in the English Premier League on Sunday. It was a goal that helped settle any nerves Arsenal had before the game and Arteta’s side began dominating the first half. Wild celebrationsThe Emirates erupted as Trossard’s shot squirmed into the net, with Arteta leading the party from the touchline. Arsenal, though, won’t mind the criticism given the team is now back in the hunt for its first league title since 2004. But Arteta was solely focused on his team’s ambitions after the game, telling reporters his side had learned lessons after failing to win the league last season.

In his first game back from an eight-month ban, Toney scored from a free kick to help Brentford beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 on Saturday and end a skid of five straight Premier League losses. I’m just buzzing to be back and scoring goals and playing for the team. Frank even gave Toney the captain's armband for this game, indicating how important his return is for the west London club. Toney led his team with 20 goals in 33 league games last season before being handed the ban in May. With the return of Toney, any thoughts of a relegation scrap for Brentford might soon be in the past.

"The truth is that this group continues to achieve historic things, once again," Argentina captain Lionel Messi told reporters. "It is something very nice to be able to win here in Brazil, after how strong they have been at home throughout their history." Brazil were arguably the better side and almost scored from a corner just before halftime through a Gabriel Martinelli strike that defender Christian Romero cleared off the goal line. They wasted a golden opportunity to score in the 47th minute when Martinelli missed an absolute sitter, striking a close-range shot straight at the goalkeeper. RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Lionel Messi's Argentina squad celebrated like they'd won the World Cup again after a dramatic 1-0 win over archrival Brazil on Tuesday. It was Brazil's first home defeat ever in World Cup qualifying, a game that was delayed because of a brawl between fans in the stands. It was also the first time since 2009 that the five-time World Cup winners failed to score in a home game. CNN —Luis Díaz scored two goals to help Colombia stun Brazil in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday, as his father watched on from the stands just a week after being released by kidnappers. On October 28, Díaz Sr. was abducted along with his wife, Cilenis Marulanda, by ELN gunmen in his hometown of Barrancas, northeastern Colombia. Marulanda was rescued later that day, but Díaz Sr. was handed over just under two weeks later to a mixed commission of UN personnel and Catholic priests on Thursday in nearby city Valledupar. Footage once again showed Díaz Sr. passionately celebrating with tears in his eyes. The five-time World Cup champion has now slipped to fifth in the qualifying standings, with Colombia up to third.

Nov 17 (Reuters) - Brazil lost their second consecutive World Cup qualifier match as Colombia fought back to win 2-1 against the five-times champions, who dropped to fifth place in the South American standings on Thursday. Brazil started well and dominated early proceedings, taking the lead in the fourth minute through a strike by Gabriel Martinelli, assisted by Vinicius Jr.'s fine first touch pass. Diaz burst into tears as he dedicated the win to his father who was celebrating emotionally in the stands. Goals in each half from Ronald Araujo and Darwin Nunez gave Uruguay victory over Lionel Messi's Argentina in a nervy affair at the World Cup champions' Bombonera stadium in Buenos Aires. Arsenal cruise to 2-0 win against Sevilla

LONDON, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Arsenal returned to winning ways with a routine 2-0 defeat of Sevilla to take a big step towards qualification for the Champions League knockout rounds on Wednesday. Europa League champions Sevilla were desperately disappointing and managed only one shot on target, with the last kick of the game, as their last-16 hopes receded. Lens and PSV have five points while winless Sevilla are bottom with two points. Arsenal got their wish as the technology that caused Arteta's angst at Newcastle was redundant and Sevilla offered virtually nothing to cause alarm. "We knew we had to get three points and we did it," Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice said.

Oct 25 (Reuters) - Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta heaped praise on Gabriel Jesus after the forward led the north London side to a 2-1 Champions League victory over Sevilla on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Brazil international scored a goal and provided an assist to compatriot Gabriel Martinelli, taking Arsenal to the top of Group B at the midway point of the pool stage. Jesus, who has now netted 23 times in 41 appearances in Europe's elite club competition, joined Arsenal after five seasons at fellow Premier League side Manchester City in July last year. He's brought so much belief and energy to the team, and he needs to step into those moments. "That's when a player becomes accountable to the team, and the team relies on those players to win games.

CNN —A late deflected goal from Gabriel Martinelli gave Arsenal a potentially huge victory in the Premier League title race, beating Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday. Man City huffed and puffed, and struggled to break down a resolute Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium as it records its second defeat in a row. We know how tough it is to play against them,” Martinelli told the Premier League afterwards. And his deflected goal was the crowning moment of a complete performance for Arsenal, one which reemphasizes the team’s title aspirations and hands Man City successive league defeats. We started really well with chances, two or three,” Guardiola told the Premier League afterwards.

Gabriel Martinelli's late goal handed Arsenal a 1-0 win over defending champion Manchester City on Sunday, ending a 12-game losing streak in the league against Pep Guardiola's team in the process. City pipped Arsenal to the title by five points last term, in part by beating the Gunners 3-1 away and 4-1 at home. In fact, Arsenal had not taken a point against City in the league since 2017, its longest losing streak against a single opponent in club history. City as a team only had four shots in the game, its lowest total ever under Guardiola in a Premier League game. Newcastle was denied a fifth straight win in all competitions, including an 8-0 victory over Sheffield United in the league.

England forward Saka picked up a knock in the 2-2 home draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in which he scored and made his 86th consecutive Premier League appearance - an Arsenal record. Asked if Saka could miss Wednesday's League Cup third round trip to Brentford and league game at home to Bournemouth on Saturday, Arteta told reporters: "It's a possibility. It is the situation that we have at the moment and we need players back, that's for sure," Arteta said. "To change 11 or 12 players tomorrow, it is not a possibility," Arteta said. "There are a lot of players that need minutes.

Arsenal do not need extra motivation against Spurs, says Arteta

Sept 22 (Reuters) - Arsenal's Champions League group stage win this week was a confidence boost ahead of Sunday's game against rivals Tottenham Hotspur but the team does not need any extra motivation before a north London derby, manager Mikel Arteta said. Spurs are also on 13 points after four successive wins, with new coach Ange Postecoglou leading them to their best start to a top-flight season for 57 years. This game doesn't need any motivation, it's the most special game of the season," Arteta told reporters on Friday. Winger Gabriel Martinelli is still being assessed and has not been ruled out for Sunday's game, Arteta said. "He's loved by everybody, respected by everybody and he fully deserves what he's doing," Arteta said.

Trossard goal seals Arsenal win at Everton

LIVERPOOL, England, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Arsenal claimed their first Premier League win at Everton for six years as Leandro Trossard's second-half strike proved enough to secure the points at Goodison Park on Sunday. Everton, still without a win this season, had managed to frustrate the visitors who had a Gabriel Martinelli goal ruled out for offside via VAR in the first period. Unbeaten Arsenal joined Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool on 13 points from five games, two points behind leaders Manchester City who have a 100% record. Arsenal's last league win at Everton in 2017 ended the reign of Ronald Koeman and while Sean Dyche is unlikely to suffer a similar fate, he has a huge task on his hands. But Arsenal eventually unpicked their defence with a short-corner eventually being fed in to Martin Odegaard who released Bukayo Saka on the right side of the penalty area.

But Forest grabbed a goal back in the 83rd minute through Taiwo Awoniyi and pressed for an unlikely point. ANXIOUS FINISH"Welcome to the Premier League!" Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said of the anxious finish. "Running the clock down, in this league, that's a very dangerous thing to do but overall I'm very happy." Those three signings were all completed early in the close4 season meaning Arsenal should be ready to hit the ground running when they kick off at home to Nottingham Forest next Saturday. While Rice's price tag appears over-inflated, he looks capable of giving Arsenal the drive their midfield began to lack in the closing months of the campaign. Timber offers the sort of defensive depth Arsenal sadly lacked after France's William Saliba was injured in March. "The players will have learned a hell of a lot with that title run, and this year is about going that one step ahead. With relentless Manchester City winning at Everton in the earlier kickoff to move four points clear, long-time league leaders Arsenal knew only a victory would suffice. The result also moved Brighton up to sixth place with games in hand on the teams around them. City could even secure it before that if Arsenal lose against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. I don't think City are going to do too many mistakes now," Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard said. And there was a lethargy about Arsenal's play as Brighton sucked the life out of them with their measured passing game.
CNN —Arsenal stayed in touch with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League after a crucial 2-0 victory against third-place Newcastle. The result sees the Gunners move a point behind Manchester City having played one game more than the defending champion. Despite Newcastle’s bright start, Arsenal took the lead through Ødegaard’s brilliant shot from outside the box – the Norwegian’s 15th league goal of the season. Arsenal win 2-0 at Newcastle to stay in title hunt

NEWCASTLE, England, May 7 (Reuters) - Arsenal showed no sign of raising the white flag in the Premier League title race with a 2-0 victory at Newcastle United on Sunday to close the gap on leaders Manchester City to one point. Newcastle stay third on 65 but Manchester United could overtake them later on Sunday if they win at West Ham United and Liverpool will sense some anxiety as they continue to chase. They also had the bitter memory of a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle a year ago that scuppered their top-four hopes. But this Arsenal side, despite the recent wobbles that have cost them top spot, are made of much sterner stuff. Pope came to Newcastle's rescue again in stoppage time at the end of a frenetic first half, keeping out Odegaard's shot with his legs after the Norwegian looked favourite to score.
LONDON, May 2 (Reuters) - Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League on Tuesday with a 3-1 win over a woeful Chelsea, set on their way by two goals from Martin Odegaard, but the title is still Manchester City's to lose having played two games less than the leaders. After losing to City 4-1 last week, Mikel Arteta made three changes, including giving striker Leandro Trossard a start in the place of Gabriel Martinelli and handing Jakub Kiwior his first league start in midfield. His side dominated their slumping London rivals straight from the kick-off as they sought to shake off last week's potentially title-deciding setback. "Everyone was so hurt after the game (against City)," Odegaard said after taking his league goal tally for the season to 14. Arsenal raced into a 3-0 halftime lead when captain Odegaard was given acres of space - twice - by Chelsea's flimsy defence to score in the 18th and 31st minutes, and Gabriel Jesus converted from close-range 11 minutes before the break. Arsenal's first win in five games took them to 78 points, two more than second-placed City who have the chance to reclaim top spot when they host West Ham United on Wednesday. Granit Xhaka, who provided assists for both Odegaard's strikes, almost opened the scoring himself in the opening minutes but he was thwarted by Kepa Arrizabalaga who went on to make saves in the second half that prevented an Arsenal rout. CNN —Arsenal was cruising three weeks ago, one hand on its first Premier League trophy for 19 years, albeit with one eye on an impressive Manchester City, then eight points behind in the title race with a game in hand. It seemed like it might be a blip, simultaneously a dropped two points and salvaged one point, that injected drama into a title race still balanced on a knife-edge between Arsenal and City. Arsenal's three consecutive draws has changed the complexion of the title race. “Whether the point makes that much difference to Arsenal, I’m not quite sure,” former Liverpool player and now pundit Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports. “They’ve probably got to go to Man City and get three points if they want to go on and win the league.
LONDON, April 21 (Reuters) - Arsenal struck two late goals to rescue a point in a pulsating 3-3 home draw with bottom club Southampton but their Premier League title hopes suffered another blow on a night of frazzled nerves in north London on Friday. The Gunners trailed by two goals inside 15 minutes with Carlos Alcaraz and former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott silencing the Emirates crowd. Arsenal laid siege to the Southampton goal but could not find the crucial winner. Both sets of players collapsed to the turf at the final whistle after a result that helped neither side. Arsenal lead the table by five points from Manchester City but they have now played two games more and have to go to the Etihad on Wednesday for what could be a pivotal clash.
