Baidu's newly announced AI tools allow people with no coding knowledge to create generative AI-powered chatbots for specific functions, which can then be integrated in a website, Baidu search engine results or other online portals. watch nowThe basic Baidu tools are generally available to try for free, up until a certain usage limit, similar to some of Google's cloud and AI functions. Baidu this week also announced three new versions of its Ernie AI model — called "Speed," "Lite" and "Tiny" — that coders can selectively access, based on the complexity of the task. In a demonstration hall, Baidu business departments showed off how the AI tools could be integrated with virtual people doing livestreams, or directing search engine traffic to an AI-based interactive buying guide. Also on display was a humanoid robot developed by Shenzhen-based UBTech Robotics that used Baidu's Ernie AI model for understanding commands and reading written words.

And I think that's just a testament to the world being really big and messy, and that these systems are still evolving, they're still really in their infancy. That may be a thing that's useful in your work, or maybe a thing that's useful in your life, or it may just be a fun thing – it may just be that you create a funny GPT and it's a cool thing to have. High-level, we always knew that we wanted to have a structure that, at its core, retained the original OpenAI – the OpenAI nonprofit. So that's the first thing to understand, I think, about OpenAI: It's not a normal company in that sense. We have shared that we have an initial board now, and expect to add more board membersWhat's the general mood like at the company right now?

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsDec 1 (Reuters) - ChatGPT maker OpenAI has delayed the launch of its custom GPT store until early 2024, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters on Friday. During its first developer conference in November, OpenAI introduced the custom GPTs and store, which were set to be launched later that month. The company is continuing to "make improvements" to GPTs based on customer feedback, the memo said. The GPTs are early versions of AI assistants that perform real-world tasks such as booking flights on behalf of a user. It is also expected to allow users to share their GPTs and earn money based on the number of users.

The Center for AI Safety, a nonprofit research organization, listed autonomous agents as one of its “catastrophic A.I. risks” this year, saying that “malicious actors could intentionally create rogue A.I.s with dangerous goals.”But there is money to be made in A.I. assistants that can do useful tasks for people, and corporate customers have been itching to train chatbots on their own data. OpenAI said on Monday that it had created a service that allows individuals and small businesses to build customized versions of its popular online chatbot, ChatGPT, and instantly share them on the internet. Through a new service called GPTs, anyone can quickly customize the chatbot for a particular task without help from additional software or computer code. The owner of a small bed-and-breakfast, for instance, could build a chatbot that answers questions for anyone who stays there. OpenAI, the San Francisco artificial intelligence start-up, has accelerated the release of its A.I. In September, it folded its DALL-E image generator into ChatGPT and released a new version of its popular chatbot that interacts with people using spoken words, much like Apple’s Siri digital assistant.

ChatGPT has more than 100 million weekly active users and 2 million developers, spread “entirely by word of mouth," Altman said. The conference comes a week after President Joe Biden signed an executive order that will set some of the first U.S. guardrails on AI technology. The order built on voluntary commitments set by the White House that leading AI developers made earlier this year. OpenAI also faces competition from developers of so-called open source models that publicly release their code and other aspects of the system for free.
