TOKYO (AP) — Shares mostly rose Tuesday in Asia after Wall Street wobbled to a mixed close as yields on U.S. Treasury bonds fell back after creeping above 5%. Political Cartoons View All 1215 ImagesHong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 0.8% to 17,033.00, while the Shanghai Composite advanced 0.8% to 2,963.70. Lower bond yields tend to most help stocks of companies promising big growth far in the future or those seen as the most expensive. Treasury yields help dictate how much investors pay for everything from stocks to corporate bonds to cryptocurrencies. While worries about higher Treasury yields and the war in Gaza are weighing on markets, strong corporate profits and the resilient U.S. economy have helped to offset such pressures.

Henrik Fisker stands with the Fisker Ocean electric vehicle after it was unveiled at the Manhattan Beach Pier ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show and AutoMobilityLA on November 16, 2021 in Manhattan Beach, California. Electric vehicle startup Fisker said Monday that it spent less money in 2022 than expected, and that it remains on track to begin deliveries of its Ocean SUV this spring and to build more than 40,000 vehicles in 2023. Fisker expects to complete the testing needed for regulatory approval of the Ocean next month, and to ramp up production – and begin deliveries -- in the second quarter. Fisker spent a total of $702 million in 2022, a bit below its guidance range of $715 million to $790 million.
The climate plans of major companies continue to fall short—but there are some bright spots. The net-zero plans of Holcim and H&M have also won approval from the Science Based Targets initiative. Decent disclosureWhile scope 3 emissions can be challenging to calculate and control, having net-zero plans that cover the complete value chain is best practice. Apple, iPhone manufacturer Foxconn Technology Co. and H&M were all noted for helping their suppliers to access renewable energy either with financial support, advice or connecting deals. The retailer has worked with suppliers to reduce packaging waste and to adopt farming practices that sequester greenhouse gases, as well as helping them access renewable energy.
