Earlier on Friday, the World Health Organization said it was designating the new Omicron variant, first identified in South Africa, as being "of concern." If the new Omicron coronavirus variant follows the pattern seen with previous variants, it should cause less of an economic slowdown than the Delta variant, Bostic said. At the current pace, Fed officials would be done tapering purchases by the middle of next year. The news of the Omicron variant spurred investors to lower their expectations on Friday for how quickly the Fed and other central banks may raise interest rates next year. read moreAccording to CME's FedWatch tool, money market traders were pricing in a 53.7% chance of at least one rate hike by the Federal Open Market Committee's June meeting as of Friday afternoon, down from an 82.1% chance on Wednesday.

In addition, studies have shown that Black children are more likely to be physically restrained during emergency room visits and more likely to die after surgery than white children. The Rittenhouse verdict "made me feel hurt, knowing the world hasn’t changed and will not change,” said Tammy, 26, who has a 2-year-old and an 8-year-old step-daughter. “When I started doing my work, it was to create the conditions that allow Black children to have the freedom to simply be,” he said. It has topped the domestic box office with a gross of $40.5 billion across 588 releases since 1995, according to the industry tracking site The Numbers. Investors are glued to Disney’s streaming show almost to the exclusion of all else. Near-term gyrations notwithstanding, Disney has stuck by its ambitious long-term goal to have between 230 million and 260 million paid Disney+ subscribers by the end of its 2024 fiscal year. Chief Executive Bob Chapek admitted in the company’s recent call that “we need to be broad in our approach” to content for Disney’s streaming services. Uncharacteristically, Disney has been losing money in streaming, though it promises Disney+ will be profitable by fiscal 2024.

Sondheim was born March 22, 1930, into a wealthy family, the only son of dress manufacturer Herbert Sondheim and Helen Fox Sondheim.
