To the Editor:Re “My Mom Showed Me Life With Alzheimer’s Is Worth Living,” by Stephen Gettinger (Opinion guest essay, June 10):I watched my mom disintegrate over a decade, the dementia robbing her of any semblance of quality to her days. And I wonder, if and when it comes, will I deal with it with resignation or grace? Will I be able to accept my fate and cherish what remains, or rail against the gods for robbing me of my essential being? Watching my mom disappear from view was one of the hardest things both my sister and I could ever imagine. Robert S. NussbaumFort Lee, N.J.To the Editor:The beautifully written and supportive essay by Stephen Gettinger about his mother’s journey with Alzheimer’s and his own diagnosis should be read by all families and patients facing this debilitating disease.

Teachers would pause and stumble on it, and no one knew how to pronounce it (Courtenay rhymes with Fort Lee), spell it, or how many syllables it had (two). People understood right away what I was saying, and I didn't have to spell or repeat it. I'm impressed and touched when someone takes the time to spell my name correctly, and it's made me hyper-aware of spelling others' names right. Because I always had to spell and repeat my name, I wanted my own kids to have short, simple ones. I once hoped that I might marry someone with a short, easy last name, but it was not to be.

To the Editor:Re “Colleges Warn of Punishment for Disruptions” (front page, April 19):I would not want to be a college president these days. Now, the president of Columbia, Nemat Shafik, has come under congressional fire for being too lenient in answering campus provocations and responds in the next instant with a wave of arrests of student protesters. Robert S. NussbaumFort Lee, N.J.To the Editor:Re “Police Arrest Dozens of Columbia Students at Gaza Protest” (news article, April 19):It’s about time! They were arrested for violating campus policies after being warned. They were on private property disrupting the campus where students pay a lot of money to get an education.

Dumpling Daughter CEO Nadia Liu Spellman didn't grow up in your average family-owned restaurant. That upbringing taught Liu Spellman the value of sharing authentic Chinese cuisine and inspired her to open her first Dumpling Daughter storefront in 2014. Liu Spellman married her childhood sweetheart, Kyle Spellman, and moved back to Boston at the end of 2010, the year after her father died. Three months after opening, Dumpling Daughter had lines "out the door and around the building" and frequently sold out, Liu Spellman says. Liu Spellman filed a federal lawsuit, and the competitors quickly asked to settle.

CNN —Fiat, the Italian car brand best known in the United States for its tiny, retro-styled cars, is putting its name on an apartment building across the river from Manhattan. The Fiat House residences will be in a far more pragmatic location, near the western approaches to the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Fiat House residents will have access to a car-sharing fleet of Fiat 500e electric cars, according to an announcement from Fiat and UNLMTD Real Estate. The building will include more than 300 apartment units ranging from studios to 2-bedrooms, some furnished, according to the announcement. While Fiat’s cars cost far less than those of ultra-luxury brands like Bentley and Aston Martin its sales have been similarly small in number.

Massive fires burning in remote areas – like some of those currently burning in northwestern Quebec – are often too out of control to do anything about. May 31 (Reuters) - Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who backed Donald Trump's successful 2016 presidential campaign but has since become a vocal critic, will launch his campaign for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination on June 6, a person familiar with the matter said. Christie ousted Democratic Governor Jon Corzine in the 2009 gubernatorial election. With his brash, unapologetic approach - critics called him a bully - Christie made headlines taking on public sector unions and other political opponents. In 2012, Christie earned widespread praise for his handling of Superstorm Sandy, which devastated the Jersey Shore. Christie swept to a second term in 2013 in a state where Democratic voters significantly outnumber Republicans, vaulting him toward the top of the list of potential future Republican presidential contenders.

Donald Trump continues to deny not knowing E. Jean Carroll, even after a jury found he sexually abused her. He also denied being friends with Roger Ailes at the time he was Carroll's boss in the 1990s. He was friends with Donald Trump," Carroll testified in the trial. Donald Trump on a November 1995 episode of Roger Ailes's talk show "Straightforward" on the America's Talking TV channel. FollowNEW YORK, Dec 27 (Reuters) - A divided federal appeals court on Tuesday threw out the insider trading convictions of four defendants, including two former hedge fund partners, over leaks from a U.S. healthcare agency about planned changes to Medicare reimbursement rates. The court agreed with prosecutors that the May 2018 convictions could not stand after a 2020 Supreme Court ruling that clarified when alleged misuse of property triggered federal fraud laws. They said Blaszczak passed the information to Huber and Olan, who used it to make $7 million by trading healthcare stocks. The appeals court upheld the defendants' convictions in 2019, but the Supreme Court ordered a reconsideration after ruling in the so-called "Bridgegate" case. The court said the alleged scheme did not aim to obtain "property" within the meaning of the underlying fraud statute.
