Visa has taken over the title sponsorship of Red Bull's second team, which has been called Scuderia AlphaTauri since 2020 when Red Bull put its fashion label on its two junior cars. The team said Wednesday it will be called Visa Cash App RB F1 Team when Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda start the season. The Paris-based FIA said it would be using 'Computer Vision' technology that uses shape analysis to work out the number of pixels going past the track edge. By the title-deciding Qatar weekend in October there were eight people assigned to assess track limits and monitor 820 corner passes, with 141 reports sent to race control who then deleted 51 laps. Stewards said this month that their inability to properly enforce track limits violations at turn six was "completely unsatisfactory" and a solution needed to be found before the start of next season. Malyon said the extra Computer Vision layer would reduce the number of potential infringements being considered by the ROC, with still fewer then going on to race control for further action.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — General Motors said Tuesday it has registered with Formula One's governing body to become an engine supplier starting in 2028 in what is seen as a huge boost to Michael Andretti's bid to join the global motorsports series. “We are thrilled that our new Andretti Cadillac F1 entry will be powered by a GM power unit,” GM President Mark Reuss said. GM in January announced its partnership with Andretti Global under its Cadillac banner on Andretti's application to join F1. GM doesn't have its own F1 power unit and said its effort would be in conjunction with an existing manufacturer. If Andretti gets approved to join an expanded F1 grid, he would have to use another manufacturer's engine until 2028.

The International Automobile Federation said in a statement it had "begun an analysis into the situation in Qatar to provide recommendations for future situations of extreme weather conditions. "Research from other series, such as cross-country events in extreme climates, will be examined for potential applications to circuit events." The FIA noted that next year's race in Qatar will be held in December, when temperatures should be lower, but said it preferred "to take material action now to avoid a repeat of this scenario." The inaugural Qatar Grand Prix in 2021 was held in late November.

Marko, 80, apologised last week after referring to Perez as a "South American" who was less focused than dominant Red Bull team mate Max Verstappen or the team's now-retired champion Sebastian Vettel. "We can confirm that Helmut Marko has received a written warning and been reminded of his responsibilities as a public figure in motor sport in line with the FIA Code of Ethics," said an FIA spokesman at the Singapore Grand Prix. Perez said on Thursday he had accepted a personal apology from Marko, whose comments continued to provoke a strong reaction in the paddock. It was not the first time Marko had referred to Perez as a South American, although the Mexican comes from Guadalajara which is geographically in North America. "I'm Italian so I know that sometimes we have been facing the same comments," said Alfa Romeo's Alessandro Alunni Bravi.

ZANDVOORT, Netherlands, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas settled for a six-pack after winning his weight in beer in a cycle race in Colorado over Formula One's August break. "The prize for the best costume was your weight in beer, and I really wanted to win the prize," said Bottas of last week's event. "I was thinking about it, obviously being mainly an American crowd, so I went for The Simpsons and Duffman." Bottas admitted his favourite character was Homer Simpson but also figured it would be tougher riding uphill dressed in that guise. He also rode a 100-mile gravel race on Sunday, finishing 20th out of 926 entrants.
