WASHINGTON (AP) — Just days after installing his new leadership team at the Republican National Committee, Donald Trump's lieutenants are cutting dozens of staff across key departments in an aggressive move that further cements the former president's takeover of the GOP's political and fundraising machinery. More than 60 people were fired in all, including senior staff in the political, data and communications departments inside the committee's Washington headquarters. Republican Rick Becker, a plastic surgeon in Bismarck, announced his campaign on Monday. Republican U.S. Rep. BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A former North Dakota police officer fired for badly injuring a 63-year-old man during an arrest has been sentenced to probation after dropping his not-guilty plea. The Bismarck Tribune cited court documents in reporting that former Bismarck Officer George Huff entered an Alford plea on Oct. 12 to a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. The plea means Huff didn't admit guilt but acknowledged there was enough evidence to support a conviction. Huff, 26, was accused of striking Keith Erlandson several times in the face while holding handcuffs during an arrest on March 9. Bismarck police and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigated, and Police Chief Dave Draovitch fired Huff on May 21.

CHICAGO (AP) — Former Northwestern University football coach Pat Fitzgerald is suing the school for $130 million, saying his alma mater wrongfully fired him in the wake of a hazing and abuse scandal that has engulfed the athletic department. Attorney Webb said that Fitzgerald would also be seeking additional money for “infliction of emotional distress,” future lost income and punitive damages. The $130 million includes $68 million remaining in owed salary plus $62 million in future lost income, Webb added. “If there was ever a coach at Northwestern University who should have not been terminated, it’s Coach Fitzgerald," Webb said. Sanford rewarded Faircloth with an appointment to the state Highway Commission, which he chaired later under Gov. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A Kansas high school football team paid tribute to their longtime photographer following her death Friday, four days after an accidental hit on the sidelines of a junior varsity game she was photographing. Linda Gregory died a few hours before Friday's game, her husband Mel Gregory announced on Facebook. The 69-year-old woman had fallen backward and struck her head on concrete while taking pictures Sept. 4 at the junior varsity matchup between Wichita Northwest High School and rival Bishop Carroll High. “I was back on the sidelines tonight to watch Linda Gregory being honored with many tributes. Prayers out to you and your wonderful wife, Mel Gregory,” Hall posted on Facebook.

A judge ruled Friday against Mark Meadows' bid to move the prosecution against him to federal court. Meadows is one of 18 co-defendants charged alongside Trump in his Georgia election interference case. A former federal prosecutor told Insider the ruling ramps up pressure on the co-defendants to flip on Trump. In a Friday ruling, US District Court Judge Steve Jones denied Meadows' bid to move the prosecution against him to federal court. With Meadows' case staying in Georgia, Rahmani said, there's "a lot of pressure" on Meadows and the other co-defendants to cooperate with the prosecution.

CNN —The swift conviction of Donald Trump’s former trade adviser Peter Navarro for contempt of Congress sent two warnings to the multiple co-defendants in the ex-president’s approaching criminal trials. The second is that loyalty to Trump can be hazardous and often gets those who show it cross-wise with the law. Navarro, for example, who is is unrepentant and a true Trump believer, pledged to appeal based on executive privilege issues. (A CNN poll released Thursday found no clear leader in a hypothetical matchup between Biden and Trump.) Up until now, Trump associates often paid a heavy price for falling afoul of the law while their leader escaped.
