Upside Foods' pivotal moment also comes at a key moment in the alternative meat industry. The cultivated-meat industry could have a wider consumer base than previously introduced alternative meat products, because unlike plant-based meats, it's "real" meat — minus the slaughtered animals. And, accordingly, some traditional meat companies have expressed interest in the burgeoning cultivated-meat industry, which one day could become a competitor. The cultivated-meat industry will need a similar boost if it's ever going to become a grocery store staple, Swartz said. The FDA's clearance was a voluntary premarket consultation, which means the agency has no further questions about the safety of Upside's products.

"Convenience foods are always going to be important for the consumer," said Phyllis Levy, the former executive director of new ventures at Campbell Soup Company . Watch this video to find out how TV dinners ushered in a new age of convenience in American kitchens, and how they led to a pandemic-era boom in frozen food sales.

Jacobs shared three inflation-resistant sectors to invest in for long-term gains. It's no different for Jay Jacobs, the US head of thematics and active equity exchange-traded funds at BlackRock, which manages $10 trillion in assets. Due to rising food prices, Jacobs also believes that agricultural technology firms focused on food innovation are another long-term beneficiary of lofty inflation levels. According to Jacobs, most costs are upfront for greener energy solutions, like the cost to build a wind turbine or solar panel. These include tax policies favoring renewable energy solutions, growing energy demand from consumers for cleaner options like electric vehicles, and the fact that renewable energy is often inherently cheaper than the electricity generated from fossil fuels.
Select Taco Bell locations in Ohio will soon feature Beyond Meat carne asada on its menus starting Oct. 13. Developed in collaboration with Beyond Meat, the carne asada will debut in select locations in Dayton, Ohio for a limited time beginning on October 13. The Mexican-inspired chain has been testing an array of plant-based protein including its own made from soy and pea protein at participating locations in Alabama. Although the partnership with Beyond Meat has been in the works for years, this announcement comes amid a tumultuous time for the plant-based meat company.
