ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The crowd chants for Marc-Andre Fleury started in the second period and filled the arena again in the waning minutes, as the Minnesota Wild goalie closed in on a long-sought milestone. Fleury recently became the fourth goalie to play in 1,000 games. Then he gave the Wild another highlight in a season that has been short on them. I was so happy to play that first game,” said Fleury, drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2003. Two of Fleury's three children — the other was recovering from tonsil surgery — greeted him at his stall in the Wild locker room afterward.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks said Corey Perry engaged in unacceptable conduct and took a step Tuesday toward terminating his contract, the latest twist involving the veteran winger who was mysteriously scratched and sent home last week without explanation. Chicago put Perry on unconditional waivers and said his deal will be terminated as long as he clears Wednesday. General manager Kyle Davidson on Saturday said Perry would be away from the Blackhawks for the foreseeable future. Agent Pat Morris did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment on the Blackhawks' intent to terminate Perry's contract. Over the weekend, he said in a statement that Perry had stepped away to attend to personal matters.

But the way the Minnesota Wild have been playing, the general manager felt he had no choice but to switch head coaches to try to get them back on track. The Wild went 5-10-4 under Evason this season. The Wild are 22nd in the league in goals per game (2.95) and second-to-last in goals allowed per game (3.95). Dwyer had been serving as an assistant this season for the Iowa Wild in the AHL. “We were pretty optimistic when the season started and, you know, it’s not like from Game 1 it was bad.
