The House Ethics Committee said Tuesday it has identified "additional allegations" against Rep. Matt Gaetz "that merit review," as it continues to investigate the Florida Republican over claims of what it called "sexual misconduct and illicit drug use." The Ethics Committee said it is now eyeing claims that Gaetz — who denies wrongdoing — "dispensed special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct." The ethics panel also said it had difficulty in obtaining relevant information from Gaetz and others since the probe began in April 2021 amid a federal criminal sex trafficking investigation of Gaetz and a friend, Joel Greenberg. "During the course of its investigation, the Committee has also identified additional allegations that merit review," despite the difficulty of getting information from Gaetz, the Ethics Committee said. Gaetz's fate and the outcome of the ethics probe carry more weight now that Republicans have only a paper-thin majority in the House of Representatives.

“President Trump is considering Byron as his running mate because of the Congressman’s steadfast support for the 45th President and his historic policy agenda. Donalds rose to prominence in Trump world last year when the Florida congressman endorsed Trump over Florida Gov. While Trump has asked allies their thoughts on Donalds as vice president, advisers have acknowledged the complications of this scenario given they both are residents of Florida. But Donalds’ embrace of Trump when running for Congress was a far cry from his tea party activism a decade ago. During his 2012 campaign for Congress, Donalds heavily embraced calls to privatize Social Security and Medicare – two programs Trump (and Donalds) now promise not to cut.

In the end, the only man who could unify House Republicans behind him was a relatively little-known and mild-mannered evangelical Christian from Louisiana. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs the speaker saga wore on, it provoked questions among some House Republicans: How could it be that they had failed to elect a speaker for so long? While Gaetz maintains otherwise, his angry GOP colleagues have plenty of evidence to make their case that it was an attention ploy. Rep. CNN —Conservative Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio is bringing the House back to the floor Tuesday to vote on whether he will succeed ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy and finally end the chamber’s prolonged paralysis amid deep GOP divisions. But it’s not clear whether Jordan can be the one who unifies the fractured House Republican conference, with some lawmakers still opposed. Jordan can now only lose three votes, instead of four, but this is a temporary drop until the Florida congressman returns. “We need to get a speaker tomorrow,” Jordan said Monday after leaving a closed-door GOP conference meeting. Several Republicans – including from districts won by President Joe Biden – declined to say Monday evening whether they would vote for Jordan on the floor.

CNN —Matt Gaetz is a product of America’s broken information environment. But as the media landscape has dramatically shifted, particularly in the right-wing information space, so have the power dynamics in Washington. The gravity actually rests in the hands of high-profile media personalities — many of whom are not incentivized by unity and compromise, but feed off conflict and division. And these media personalities have birthed and empowered people like Gaetz. The right-wing media machine — comprised of Fox News, talk radio, social media personalities, and a constellation of blusterous websites — have made stars out of attention-hungry politicians.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday lashed out at Rep. Matt Gaetz, saying that the fellow Republican lawmaker who is seeking to oust him has "personal things in his life that he has challenges with." In February, the Department of Justice ended a two-year criminal sex trafficking investigation of Gaetz without filing charges against the Florida congressman. McCarthy on Tuesday accused Gaetz of targeting him because of a House ethics investigation into Gaetz's conduct that was also the subject of the criminal probe. "For some people, policy failures are recast as personal because their own failures are personally embarrassing to them," Gaetz had said. Gaetz on Monday night filed a resolution that seeks to remove McCarthy as speaker.

Even as he runs against Trump, Ramaswamy has repeatedly praised him as the most effective president this century. This was the case for Ben Shapiro, who was so irate that he set alight Barbie dolls worth an estimated $69. "The 2023 Barbie movie, unfortunately, neglects to address any notion of faith or family, and tries to normalize the idea that men and women can't collaborate positively (yuck)," she continued.

Elon Musk appeared to join in the criticism around Gerwig's "Barbie" in a tweet. "Barbie" may be storming the box office, but not everyone is a fan of Greta Gerwig's new pink-obsessed epic. "It you take a shot every time Barbie says the word "patriarchy", you will pass out before the movie ends," Musk said on Twitter, in response to a user's meme. Representatives for Musk did not respond to Insider's request for further comment with an answer that addressed the question. Last month, he told users that terms like "cisgender" and "cis" were considered "slurs" on Twitter.

The GOP presidential hopeful's own super PAC has been blunt about his campaign's struggles. According to reports in Rolling Stone and The New York Times, Rupert Murdoch and his influential News Corp empire are souring on the governor. In this account, the “deep state” has always had it in for Mr. Trump, targeting him for things that other officials, especially Democrats, get away with. “If you’re Donald Trump, they’re going to come get you for anything,” Byron Donalds, a Florida congressman, said on CNN on Tuesday. In contrast, it has taken the government more than a year to get the hundreds of classified documents Mr. Trump took from the White House. Even now, it would be foolish to assume that everything in Mr. Trump’s possession has been turned over. And what of Mrs. Clinton, against whom Mr. Trump still seems to believe he is running, seven years later?

Ron DeSantis is "far more dangerous" than Donald Trump, an ex-GOP Florida congressman said on MSNBC. Former Rep. David Jolly called DeSantis "a cultural warrior who wants to take us back 100 years." Ron DeSantis, would be "far more dangerous" for the United States than Trump. "I say this with conviction — I think Ron DeSantis is far more dangerous than Donald Trump for a very specific reason," former Rep. David Jolly said Sunday on MSNBC's, "The Mehdi Hasan Show." "But Donald Trump is a transactional figure and he'll do whatever it takes to win."

Adding to his list of grievances against DeSantis on the podcast, the congressman from Florida said he was miffed because DeSantis threatened to primary members of Congress who didn't endorse him.
