When the French tire maker Michelin closed its factories during the coronavirus pandemic, Florent Menegaux, the company’s chief executive, took stock of the closures’ impact on employees worldwide. Thousands of workers in Asia, Europe and the United States at the lower end of the company’s pay scales could barely get by, an independent review showed. “If workers are just in survival mode, it’s a big problem,” Mr. Menegaux said in an interview. “When the wealth distribution in a company is too unequal, that’s a problem, too.”The announcement quickly ignited a debate in France over what exactly constitutes a decent wage and whether more French corporations should follow suit. Unions warned that the Michelin pledge would still leave some workers struggling and that it did not come with a guarantee against future layoffs or site closures.

It may have weighed twice as much as a blue whale because of its dense bones. That's nearly as heavy as a Boeing 747 or twice as much as a blue whale, which typically weighs between 72 and 180 tons. That means the other fossils retrieved from the area may not offer clues to how P. colossus lived. A 3D model shows what a complete skeleton of Perucetus colossus would look like, above a blue whale and smaller Cynthiacetus peruvianus skeletons. No limbs were found near the P. colossus skeleton, but fossilized evidence suggests it likely had both front and back legs.

Analysts at the Bank of Nova Scotia, however, saw oil export and production levels remaining relatively flat despite the sanctions. Up to 80-90% of Russian oil could still flow if Moscow seeks to flout the G7 price cap, a U.S. treasury official told Reuters last month, leaving 1-2 million bpd shut in. "The implementation of Russian sanctions ... will remove 1.5 million bpd of supply from the market. "While we believe (the price cap) would be very difficult to implement, it would directionally raise the likelihood of more Russian oil staying on the market at any price."
