By Robertson S. HenryKINGSTOWN (Reuters) - The top court in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines dismissed a challenge to anti-gay laws dating to British colonial rule on Friday, leaving the Caribbean country among a handful that still prescribes harsh criminal penalties against gays and lesbians. Local laws call for up to ten years incarceration for anyone who has same-sex relations, under a 1988 criminal code that upheld laws from the colonial era. In her ruling, Judge Esco Henry held that Johnson and Macleish did not have the standing to challenge the laws since they do not live in the country. Activists argue that the laws that criminalize consensual same-sex relations between adults encourage physical abuse and discrimination, even though they are rarely if ever enforced. But elsewhere in the Caribbean, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, and Barbados have decriminalized gay sex in 2022, while Trinidad and Tobago struck down its ban altogether in 2018.

About 90 percent of the students who reported vaping said they used flavored products, citing favorites that tasted like fruit and candy. Public health experts also linked other state and local flavor bans and education campaigns to the falling high school vaping rate, which is the lowest in nearly a decade. In all, about 2.1 million middle and high school students reported using e-cigarettes, down from 2.5 million last year. While the agency has authorized about two dozen vaping products for sale, thousands of illicit candy-colored flavored vapes have flooded the country and are top sellers. Other researchers noted that the combined general use of tobacco products by middle and high school students barely fell, to 10 percent this year from 11 percent last year.

Elf Bar disposable vape flavored vaping e-cigarette products are displayed in a convenience store on June 23, 2022 in El Segundo, California. The findings, a part of the 2023 National Youth Tobacco Survey, showed that from 2022 to 2023 e-cigarette use among high school students declined to 10% from 14.1%, a drop representing about 580,000 fewer high schoolers. Current use of any tobacco product by high school students declined by an estimated 540,000 students, to 1.97 million in 2023 from 2.51 million in 2022. E-cigarette usage has been the most commonly used tobacco product among both high school and middle school students for a decade. "The FDA remains concerned about youth tobacco product use, and we cannot and will not let our guard down on this issue," King said.

But the recent shift toward e-cigarettes that can’t be refilled has created a new environmental dilemma. U.S. teens and adults are buying roughly 12 million disposable vapes per month. But the quantities used in vaping devices are too small to warrant salvage. Disposable e-cigarettes currently account for about 53% of the multi-billion U.S. vaping market, according to U.S. government figures, more than doubling since 2020. The company has incinerated more than 1.6 million pounds of vaping waste in recent years, mostly unsold inventory or discontinued products.

It's a small tube called the human acellular vessel (HAV) designed to treat traumatic vascular injuries mostly due to blasts and shrapnel. Why vascular injuries are so dangerousVascular injuries are a leading cause of preventable death in military combat and a leading cause of amputation. They're lab-grown from human vascular cells in about eight weeks and then sanitized to be ready as an off-the-shelf replacement blood vessel. HumacyteVascular surgeons often treat traumatic vascular injuries with grafts. Humacyte plans to file an application with the FDA later this year for HAVs to treat traumatic vascular injuries.

Two years after Singapore greenlighted lab-grown meat for human consumption, mass production has yet to start. The technological, regulatory and scale barriers to entry for cultivated meat are very high compared to plant-based meat, said Didier Toubia, chief executive of Israel's Aleph Farms, which makes cultivated beef steak. "It's too high and it's embarrassing ... We lose money every time someone enjoys our cultivated chicken," Eat Just CEO Josh Tetrick said. Hong Kong-based Avant Meats is more bullish than Eat Just, with ambitions to make a premium food, cultivated fish maw. Fish maw is the swim bladder of a fish, a delicacy prized in China that could fetch up to thousands of dollars per kilogram, depending on its grade.

The commercial vehicles (CV) segment reported a double-digit growth for December, with sales at industry leaders Eicher Motors (EICH.NS) and Ashok Leyland (ASOK.NS) rising 17.3% and 44.9%, respectively.
A New York man who was caught on video punching an elderly Asian woman 125 times earlier this year was sentenced to over 17 years in jail in connection with the hate crime attack, officials announced Tuesday. In the brutal assault he called the woman of Filipino descent an “Asian b----” and she was left suffering bleeding on her brain and multiple facial fractures. She said the victim and her family worked with the district attorney's office all while recovering from her injuries. Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza said there was no relationship between the two, and the incident was an isolated attack. "As the attack happened, all I could think was, ‘Please Lord let me live, please Lord my daughters need me,'" she continued.
