CNN —Dangerous wildfires are burning on the East and West coasts Monday, with firefighters in New York and New Jersey working to contain a deadly blaze spurred by an ongoing, historic drought – while strong winds in Southern California could fan a destructive fire in Ventura County. Nearly 600 wildfires have burned nearly 7,000 acres in New Jersey and New York since October 1, according to officials. Most of the fires were in New Jersey, where the state’s Forest Fire Service has responded to 537 wildfires. “We were fortunate that the fire started at 9 o’clock in the morning, with daylight,” said Jim Fryhoff, the sheriff of Ventura County. Agricultural officials assessing the impact on farmland planted with avocados, citrus, and berries have estimated the damage at $2.4 million, the Ventura County Star reported.

Election officials across the US – particularly in swing states – have pledged to uphold the integrity of the vote and urged voters not to be misled by conspiracy theories. “Here in Georgia, it is easy to vote and hard to cheat,” Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Monday. He has alleged that voting by noncitizens is a widespread problem, that there’s no verification for overseas or military ballots, that election officials are using early voting to commit fraud and that massive swaths of mail-in ballots are illegitimate. However, supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris are far more confident, with 90% saying the election will be run smoothly, compared to 57% of Trump supporters. Harris supporters are also more confident than Trump supporters that it will be clear who won the election after all the votes are counted, by an 85% to 58% split.

Bitcoin that's lost either when an investor dies or is simply locked out of their wallet reduces available supply. Estate planning is crucial for bitcoin investors who store the coin on a cold wallet, experts say. Satoshi Nakamoto being deceased would potentially soothe a big fear that's loomed over the bitcoin market for years, which is that the person could sell their estimated 1 million bitcoin. If no one has your private key, the funds will be locked permanently," Wealthica CEO Eric Lemieux told Business Insider. Otherwise, more lost bitcoin could mean even higher prices for the crypto.

Neubauer said the testimony gave important insight into the potential motivation in Rush and his company. Peter Girguis, a Harvard University professor and oceanographer who monitored the hearing, told CNN evidence of Rush’s ego-driven approach and heedlessness to repeated safety concerns appears to loom large in the disaster. CNN —A New Mexico judge on Thursday is set to consider the “Rust” movie armorer’s motion to be released from prison, months after similar charges against actor Alec Baldwin were dismissed due to prosecutorial misconduct. At her trial, prosecutors argued she repeatedly violated safety protocol and was negligent in performing her duties, allowing six live rounds on to the set. Her defense attorney argued she was scapegoated for the safety failures of film set management and other crew members. But just days after his trial began, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer threw out the charges and ruled prosecutors did not properly turn over evidence to the defense.
