Cosgrave resigned as CEO last month, saying his personal comments on the conflict had become a distraction from Web Summit 2023 in Lisbon. Web Summit appointed former Wikimedia Foundation CEO Katherine Maher as the chief executive. The Web Summit said more than 300 of its partners were coming to the event and that some "who were deliberating have come back on board and reversed their decision". The event attracts about 70,000 participants every year, drawing speakers from global tech companies and startups, as well as politicians.
