☆ Pixar Lays Off 175 Workers as It Returns Its Focus to Films

One problem: Disney had weakened the Pixar brand by using its films to build the Disney+ streaming service. Starting in late 2020, when many multiplexes were still closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, Disney debuted three Pixar films in a row (“Soul,” “Turning Red” and “Luca”) online, bypassing theaters altogether. At the time — around December 2020 — Disney was pouring money into the streaming service in a wild and ultimately unsuccessful effort to attract up to 260 million subscribers worldwide. As part of the retrenchment at Pixar, “Elio,” a movie about an 11-year-old boy who is inadvertently beamed into space, was delayed. Disney pushed it to June 2025.

If you have the day, you can rent a boat to visit the Princes’ Islands, a group of nine islands in the Sea of Marmara. Only four of them are open for public visits: Kinaliada, Burgazada, Heybeliada and Buyukada. They have a small private beach, as well as a restaurant open to the public called Elio Sedef. Every hour of the boat rental is 500 euros [$530] plus tax, plus catering. For the Princes’ Islands excursion, you need at least seven to eight hours.

Wright, 32, posted a photo on Instagram on Wednesday of her newborn baby snuggled under a brown knitted blanket and wearing an adorable striped hat. “Say hello to Elio Ocean Wright Lococo born at home on Tuesday 19th September. Questions about the fate of Patty Jenkins' "Rogue Squadron" began circulating nearly a year ago, and intensified after the Star Wars film went unmentioned at Disney's annual D23 Expo last weekend. The suggestion was that Jenkin's Star Wars feature would be punted down the calendar to another date. "Rogue Squadron" was set to be the first theatrical Star Wars film since the 2019 release of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," which received middling reviews and generated over $1 billion in ticket sales worldwide. The path for future Star Wars films has been unclear since "Rise of Skywalker" was released. There's even talk that "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" director Rian Johnson is still attached to a stand-alone trilogy set within the Star Wars universe.
