CNN —An electric motorcycle, made by Swedish-Kenyan manufacturer Roam completed a 6,000-kilometer (3,700-mile) journey from Nairobi, Kenya, to Stellenbosch, South Africa, in 17 days, using only solar power. “(We wanted) to break a lot of boundaries on how traversing through sub-Saharan Africa is possible without pre-installed charging infrastructure,” Masa Kituyi, Roam product owner and one of the riders on the expedition, tells CNN. However, he insists that this mammoth journey would still be possible for people without a solar support car. Lewis SeymourAccelerating marketThe journey was a collaborative effort between Roam and Stellenbosch University, which launched an Electric Mobility Lab this month, dedicated to advancing sustainable transport solutions. Low operating costs are a key driver, analysts from Mordor told CNN in an email: “Electricity is generally cheaper than gasoline, and electric motorcycles have fewer mechanical parts.

Since 2022, the Peach State has added over 30,000 clean energy jobs, more than any other state, according to a June study by Climate Power, a strategic communications firm. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allocated over $175 million toward the EV battery supply chain in Georgia and $135 million over five years toward infrastructure for EV charging stations in Georgia. Investments in EV and battery manufacturing will boost job growth and output in both of these sectors, Benson said. Strong population growth remains a tailwind for Georgia's economic growth and EV industry, Benson said. Between 2021 and 2022, there were 327,795 people who moved into Georgia, according to data from the Census Bureau.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni vowed on Sunday to "relaunch" cooperation with China, signing a three-year action plan during her first official visit to Beijing since taking office. The Italian leader said her five-day trip was a "demonstration of the will to begin a new phase, to relaunch our bilateral cooperation." Later in the day Meloni said that an industrial cooperation memorandum signed by Italy and China includes strategic industrial sectors such as electric mobility and renewables. Meloni, who sees Chinese investment as a way to spur Italy's anemic economic growth, will meet Xi and China's top legislator, Zhao Leji, third in the leadership hierarchy. Meloni is expected to raise Chinese overcapacity with Chinese officials, as well as Chinese economic support for Russia in its war with Ukraine.

A Trump spokesperson pointed Reuters to a recent policy announcement in which the former president said EV manufacturing would harm workers. Biden's campaign pointed Reuters to a statement from Kevin Munoz, a campaign spokesman, who said Trump's plan would mean more Chinese EV manufacturing jobs and fewer American jobs. Earlier this month, she said the U.S. offshore wind industry was "fundamentally broken" after BP wrote down $540 million on its wind power projects offshore New York, blaming inflation and red tape that meant projects ran over budget and over time. Globally, the renewables sector has been undermined by slow permitting, technological challenges, rising raw material costs and higher costs of capital. As BP seeks to guarantee it can meet its internal returns target of 6% to 8% on renewables projects, Dotzenrath said BP was working out how to reduce costs globally. You need one of the local energy suppliers to help you push ahead with the permitting processes and establish the onshore grid connection," she said. BP does not produce electrolysers, which split water to produce hydrogen, but Dotzenrath said did not rule out greater involvement.

Legacy automakers are pivoting to electric vehicles in response to expected strong consumer demand, tougher environmental regulations both from US states and foreign countries, and a push from Wall Street. Electric vehicles have outpaced growth of traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars in recent years. But automakers bucked Trump and agreed to meet tougher standards set by California rather than the Trump administration’s rules. At a Detroit battery plant Wednesday, Trump said America didn’t need what the factory produced“This plant, we just walked through this plant and the electric vehicles are gonna put [automakers] out of business,” Trump said. Trump’s proposals could undermine US companies’ EV investments and hand over control of an increasingly EV future to foreign manufacturers.

"We remain convinced that our presence and successes in Formula E will lay the foundation for future mobility solutions," said Porsche executive board member Michael Steiner in a statement. "We look forward to playing an active role in shaping the successful future of Formula E and thereby giving electric mobility even more impetus on a global scale." Quick quiz: Which popular governor has been sweet-talking electric vehicle industries and developing E.V. infrastructure in his state, with an eye toward making it “the electric mobility capital of America?”If you guessed Brian Kemp of Georgia, give yourself a high five. Maybe even a high 10. Because on the face of it, there’s no reason to guess that an ultraconservative leader of a reddish-purple state is a green-vehicle revolutionary. The issue remains a favorite culture war cudgel for Republicans, slamming Democrats as a bunch of bed-wetters wrecking the economy over an inflated threat that, as Donald Trump scoffed, “may affect us in 300 years.”Except, as Mr. Kemp tells it, electric vehicles aren’t about combating climate change.

May 2 (Reuters) - Electric vehicle maker Fisker Inc (FSR.N) said on Tuesday it would start delivering its sports utility vehicle Ocean with swappable batteries made by Ample by the start of next year. The partnership with the battery startup will help Fisker increase scale and adoption of its EVs in the United States and Europe, the electric car maker said, adding that Ample will share revenue related to the battery swapping mechanism. Battery-swapping, replacing a depleted battery with a freshly charged one, is fast emerging as an alternative to charging EVs at utility stations. Fisker added that the initial customer for Ample-powered EVs will be fleet operators who are looking to "transition to electric mobility without economic or operational compromises." Ample aims to make its batteries and swapping process more widely available to different brands of carmakers.
